Sony MDR MA900 Impressions Thread - Page 27

Yes, I definitely prefer to be a touch south of neutral. Dead neutral is as bright as I like to get. I had much love for the he-4 but had to give it up because ultimately it was just a bit too bright for me. Most people would not find it an overly bright hp.

As with anything, I think a huge factor is what kind of music you are listening to... For classical, dead neutral can be very pleasant, since the sound itself won't usually go into distortion. For electronic music, it's probably the opposite..

i got refunded after filing on paypal. i won't try to buy this from this guy again. so i am out.

i don't think this one is 2.5 times better than the ad700. so i will just enjoy the ad700. extremely satisfied with it. just the high quality cable is worth it. can't beat the value for 70 bucks. 176 cad for the ma900. money used on o2+odac.

I'm about to replace this cable.  Nothing fancy, I just need a new cable (it broke),  Does it really matter what cable?

IMHO,I think it does
Many however, may not agree with me.
On my hd800's,,I use 2 cables,,a silver /copper ,and a pure silver ,both made by Ted Allen.
The silver, gets about 90% of the time.

Amazon has a seller who had 2 new sets for sale at 180, best price I have seen for a new pair in the last week or so, which has been how long I have looked. They seem to be hovering at or around 200.

Dave Parkers was the seller. I had a $100 amazon gift card and after auditioning a friends pair of these at home I couldn't be happier with the purchase and the more than fair price.

i see 1-2 years from now this thing will be around 100 bucks. i saw the price on the ad700 was over 250? in the beginning many years ago. now can get a pretty much new one for 70 bucks.

maybe later can get these from thailand directly. japanese sellers are big rip off on ebay.

Hey guys I just got these cans today .....and they sound amazing!!!! also got the schiit magni and modi biggrin.gif

QUESTION:

With dead slience or talking videos etc. I can hear some static ok little electrical clicks etc. and I'm trying to figure out has anyone else heard these doing this? do they make a little static?

My thoughts were it has something to do with the Magni/ modi but i plugged in my hd598 and watched same videos and heard nothing......so is this a result of the ma900 resistor circuit?

Any input on what the problem could be is greatly appreciated! smily_headphones1.gif

Have you plugged them into anything else? Sounds like it's picking up feedback from the Magni or Modi that your 598 isnt.

I have a Magni myself, I never notice any static on the MA900s with it. I don't notice any static on my EF2A either. So I don't think it's a result of the resistor circuit. It's probably picking up some interference somehow.

My guess is the Modi. try different ways of connecting. Like hooking the Magni up to another source (like a TV's audio out), or Ipod, etc. Then try the Modi with your E12 (assuming you still have it), etc. Something in the chain is causing static, and because the MA900 is much more sensitive than the HD598, it's picking up that static where the 598 doesn't.

Thanks guys! well i think its not the ma900's......i was switching back and forth and finally heard a little bit of it coming through on my x1 fidelios

just switched to the M/M stack today when it came (previously audioengine D1) and had never heard anything on the X1's so yall are right it has to be static in the M/M loop from the hookup somehow frown.gif

using these cables:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0WNWZI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ES5ZQE/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

thought they were decent quality (look well built and solid and well reviewed) but maybe just havent been used by audiophile purposes lol

im gonna try the D1 with the ma900 just to make sure, but heard it on X1 also so must be the M/M.

side note: the signiture of these cans are like hd598 without harsh highs and much better bass and stage......so well rounded! thanks to this thread for getting me to pull the trigger biggrin.gif

Try a different usb port. My pc had very noisy usb ports. I had to use a USB hub to get rid of it.

I feel that in fairness I need to make this comment. I sent my ma900 off to Brian at BTG Audio to get dual exit earring adapters. I often recommend Brian because he does very nice custom work. But...let me say this, he is and often can be very slow. After two weeks of headphones in his hands,  I sent him an email asking for an update. Well, seems he has been busy with school and other hp projects. Not really what I wanted to hear. I'm now having some regrets about sending them to him. FYI

Damn... so we're sharing the pain of being away from our MA900s... I haven't had mine in like a month... frown.gif
