no really, genuine question.

you see the open side of the drivers? When your ears are at that end, they're all the way back. In this position it sounds more treble-y and less bassy.

 

When your ears are in front, they touch the drivers and are far from the open part. It sounds overly dark and bassy.

Do they improve the sound at all or just the comfort?  I imagine pad rolling wouldn't change the sound of these too much.  Not that I'm not happy with them, they are amazing!

Sony marketing says MDR F1 is purely for comfort & durability

 

 

I usually go for the stock, but since there's no link for MA900 pads the MDR F1 earpad is the second best option.
