New custom IEM company - Custom Art: discussion, review, and impressions thread - Page 83

Finally.

I stayed at home today to get my monitors. The lab and my prof. are not happy of course.

I got my SE5way minutes ago.

First impressions:

Fit and finish; as good as expected. I would say top class. I have red metallic earpieces with claret violet metallic cymba parts with bloodwood faceplates + black artworks on them (one side bear and the other side bear paw. Call of the Wild!)

The artworks are on the smaller side but I don't mind it because the wooden faceplates look stunning so it is nice that artwork doesn't cover up everywhere. I don't have any devices that takes pictures (my smartphone is broken) so you guys will have to do with Peter's professional pictures but let me warn you; the pictures don't do the justice. Red metallic looks brilliant in real life and the wood + artwork is completely wonderful.

The cable; well I have this time black cable that matches the artwork too (nice thinking Peter ;)). It is braided and I have to point it out, it is even more user friendly than the white one. The black is braided and you can feel the difference. It is really damn nice. Some time later when I upgrade my dap I might get another cable and I will first look into Peter's cable. I saw from tomscy's review, Peter is also making quite good aftermarket cables.

You guys probably know SE5way contains 5 BA per side and 5 way monitors. The earpieces are quite big. While Music One completely covers my ear, SE5way sticks out a bit. I don't mind it at all really so no problem for me, as SE5way has always been on the bigger side. You even need to have big ear canals to have it because fitting 5 tubes in canal part needs some space.

As for the fit; I requested Peter from the thicken the left canal part a little bit. Maybe you remember from my Music One review, the left was fitting like a glove but I wanted a tighter fit and I am happy to say, the job is done perfectly. Now it is better. Funny though I must mention my stupid right ear creates a little problem. While the canal is good, I am not sure the monitor is fitting into its "bed" perfectly. I feel like there is a small empty place between my right monitor and ear and it is not in the canal area. When I push the monitor with my finger towards to my ear, I can feel the gap is filling but when I release the pressure it is happening again. I tried to do some quick tests whether it affects the sound or not, I found that the sound remains unchanged or at least I couldn't detect a difference yet but isolation changes. I get a better isolation when I push the monitors a bit towards to my ear. So far, I am not gonna ask for a refit or something, I will try to see how the real life experience will lead me. I am a little sick btw, maybe that can cause a difference in my fit but I would guess, if it was causing a difference it would be in the canal part probably. So far I can give fit 9/10. Also I will use Music One and check the right ear fit again, maybe it was happening there too but I haven't noticed. If I feel bad about it, I am sure Peter would solve the problem anyway. Funny thing is it doesn't change the sound. Maybe it is because I am at home there is basically no sound or something around me, no wind, nothing? I don't know. Just to clear out something, I tried to push the left monitor too, it doesn't move from its place, it has the perfect shape of my outer ear, it fits and sits there, without moving an inch.

Well for only several minutes of listening I can't say anything about the sound but it sounds like the good old SE5way. So the remolding is perfectly good. Peter managed to kept the sound.

So far, I am happy to receive my monitors back. I really miss those bone shattering yet controlled bass and airy sound.

One final note to UPS: I hate you guys, I had to stay at home to collect my pack finally. I rather prefer regular Belgian post, if they don't find you, they leave the pack to the closest post office and you can collect it next day easily. UPS sends it back to their office and if you happen to reschedule it (saying that if I am not at home, they should leave it to the neighbour) they reschedule it to 2 days later not next day. They definitely don't pickup their phones and force you to use the online system.

You never name them and its most confusing to know which variety you are actually talking about.

They're the Harmony 8 Pro, have now edited original post to make it clearer, ty!

(Excitement makes you forget basic things for posts... like naming the product..!)

Congratulations and glad it worked out!

It seems Piotr is quite the craftsman.

Can he make custom sleeves for the Tralucent 1plus2, like this?

I have sent my 1plus2 to Piotr for this purpose. I think it's much harder to make custom sleeves for the 1plus2 since it is much bigger and designed to fit the outer ear almost like a CIEM. This gives very little space to do a sleeve that goes all around it like the sensaphonics do over the smaller SE846. Also if one try to make sleeves just on the tip the Tralucent tips is very "cone shaped" and has nothing to hatch the sleeve on and the tip will likely slide off. I will keep trying to convince Piotr to make at try though. :) But I am afraid that Piotr is to much of a perfectionist to even try something that can't be made perfect.

Yup, I have the best looking SE5way in the world lol :D I really like that Call of the Wild theme, bear and bear paw artworks look stunning but damn, that bloodwood is gorgeous seriously. I suggest other people to take a look at the wooden faceplate options. In my case, Peter suggested that bloodwood looks wonderful with red metallic earpieces so I trusted his opinion. Well turned out it is even better than what he described to me :happy_face1:

The right funny fit is worrying me a bit though it is too early for me to say something about it. Me and my gf (and of course our puppy) are going to holiday for 1 week today. We have been very busy yesterday and today will be quite a busy day too. So I don't really have time to check my ciems fit more or spend time on head fi. For example now I am closing the website and taking the dog to long walk so he gets tired and hopefully sleep in 2-3 hours of car ride :happy_face1:

That's the good thing about Belgium. You are in the middle of everything and with car, you can visit lots of places in a day :happy_face1:

Ps: Sorry for OT fellas.

Why not Ref1? I think Ref1 would suit your preferences better than 1+2 mate.

1 plus 2 can be had for way cheaper and from the reviews ref 1 seems like a side grade though I agree might be a little better fit on sound sig but I'm still figuring out what sig will be my endgame.

How dare you, he is the best dog in the world :happy_face1: Very cute, very lovely. It is not that I "have" to make him tired but if he is tired he can sleep easily in the car so we don't have to take care of him, focus on him etc. Also he is very young (10 months old) so he is very active, full of energy. He is definitely not a "couch potato" type.

Also I love my dog, I wouldn't change him for audio gear or anything else. He is truly the best friend a person can have.. I would actually share a picture of him but my phone died recently, I lost all his pictures along with everything else in the phone.

Fellas, as I said before, the pictures don't really do the justice. I just checked the pictures again while posting the link, in real life they look much more better and stunning. I would suggest red metallic color to everybody, it is a real tone of the red and it makes a wonderful combination with the wood of Peter's choice, which is bloodwood. He suggested that one to me and I trusted his suggestion. Well, I don't regret leaving it to him at all :happy_face1:
