Don't know if I can agree with that, maybe I didn't have the uber cable with me when I tried the ref.1. The bass actually shocked me..too much presence (almost bloated), and not really controlled. I actually prefer 1+2's faster and tighter bass.

Good to know, I was suspecting translucent since they have dynamic drivers.  I thouth NT6 bass was better than anything I've heard, but I thought it could be improved(there's always room for improvement for anything).  One thin NT6 bass lacked to me was good quality woofer bass for hip-hop music.  Chronic2001 was disappointing with it. :(

Not that you should tune an iem for Chronic 2001 or it will turn into beats.  :D

Bass is very very nice on the non pro version. ...deep and precise in my opinion. ..though I haven't heard the em32...

Well what is considered good in bass may vary...SE5 has extension and rumble, NT6 has control and Ref1 has punch and air movement.

How about definition?  I consider it the most important.

I don't know what that means.

totally agree:

SE5 has extension and rumble (and control), NT6 has control (and rumble too on a powerful source)  and Ref1 has punch and air movement (big time). Unlucky I wasn't a fan of this type dynamic driver bass, but it just like what you described. it really sounded like it moved a lot of mass, sadly it doesn't have as much extension compared to the previous two.

Definition? IMO

extension: 20-40 Hz.

control: flat over 20-250 Hz

Rumble: 40-100 Hz

Punch: 80-150 Hz (plus enhancement)

Air: decay + treble presentation + IEM seal.

Update: sorry I thought you were asking what those terms means.

Definition? you mean texture? I think SE5 = NT6.

I think of it as well defined bass, showing off variations of the low end accurately.  Not just same bass everwhere as it sound artificial.

Definitely agree. I like him as a musician and producer but his marketing gimmick headphone business is just horrible. I guess he chose money over making quality products which would sell or provide less profit to him because it wouldn't be swag anymore..

Any audiophile hip-hop you recommend?  I'm in hip-hop mood today.

Love the definition in this bass.
