For many years now, I have been on a journey searching for a headset or mic that actually works well for me personally. See, I have a soft spoken, monotone voice, and on practically every mic ever, I am never loud enough to others. On PC it isn't so bad, since programs like TS have more advanced settings for boosting incoming and outgoing voice volumes, but I am mainly talking about gaming on console.
I rarely ever use voice chat on PC, since I prefer type chat, but on xbox it is all voice, and I have yet to find a mic that actually broadcasts me "loud and clear." My friend bought a headset for me - Turtle Beach PX5 - and he said my voice was "perfect" through those, but they were wireless, heavy and extremely uncomfortable, so I returned them. I currently use a pair of Sennheiser's and a modmic, but the modmic just isn't "sensitive?" enough to broadcast my voice loud and clear - I have to stick it right in front of mouth and speak considerably louder for it to broadcast at an "acceptable" level.
Let's get something straight - I do not whisper when I speak. I am soft spoken, but if we had a conversation in person, you likely wouldn't have a problem hearing me. I believe the main problem is the monotone range my voice transmits at. So that brings me to my question - I am searching for a mic, standalone or otherwise, hat has excellent quality even when picking up low voice volumes. What is the distance you can be away from a standalone mic? Since I am gaming on console, I will be like 2 ft.(or more) away from it all times. As far as headsets go, I have heard great things about the Sennheiser PC360, but I really don't wanna dish out the money on a high-end headset (those or otherwise) just to essentially "test" them out, and it would be a waste to the Sennehiser cans I already own, so I really need some help here to try and find he "perfect" mic for my situation. I use an astro mixamp and have my PC/console setup where the wife sleeps and where she spends time (TV, laptop, etc.) so any advice of "just speak louder" really isn't an option. The important thing to remember is I speak low, and I need a solution to compensate for this, so consider that when giving suggestions.
