I think the new order will be shipped on April...and from the dev blog, the new hifi-8 will be no longer built by the team, it is outsourced so to speed up the shipping for new orders

One thing i want to ask, can anyone check their order when you log in your account on their website?

I tried to track the process of my order, but there is nothing there:confused_face_2:

Pod Classic - there isn't a 160gb stock Classic that won't work with the M8.  I'm not sure how you are shopping for your iPod, but be careful of modded iPods.  Many are older models (like 5th or 5.5 gen) that had bigger hard drives added.  Avoid those just because they won't work with the HiFi-M8.  Now for the bad news.  24/96 support for iDevices isn't out yet.  CEntrance is still promising its in the works, but not yet.  More bad news.  I'm quite sure iPod Classics will never be able to play more then 16/48 files without down sampling.  That's is merely my opinion/assumption at this point.  CEntrance has made a release yet, so we are all in the dark.  I just believe that you'll need to run IOS7 to make higher sample rates possible, and Classics run their own unique firmware, not any IOS.

Yeah, this is kinda what I was afraid of........I wanted that higher capacity classic and since it can't really pass anything highter than 16/44 files......seems kinda a waste.  The newer IOS7 ipod touches are nice but with just 32GB storage and pricey for what they are, also kinda a waste........seems like finding a good cheap ipod classic is an idea I perhaps should wait on until CEntrance publicly confirms a firmware update.  Since I have a Nexus, I googled the app "USB Audio Player Pro", which allows the usb port to be used with an outboard dac like the CEntrance........not sure about the overall quality there in that scenario.......seems like there isn't a foolproof way without some experimentation on my part.  I have been going back and forth on this portable vs desktop rig for a week or two since ordering the Alpha Dogs......decisions.

USB Audio Player Pro works pretty much out of the box with lots of Android devices (including Nexus) and should be bit perfect for any lossless format.

Unfortunately it is very early stages of development so there are still a number of teething issues (for example it will not set up properly without a number of re-connect attempts when used with my HRT microstreamer, but works fine once it does connect).

Also the interface is very basic and there is absolutely no ability to tweak the sound since there is no EQ or crossfeed options.

Ive been wondering for a while now what effect a cck has on the signal path. I have nice lod cable and im sure a lot of us have nice usb a2b cables. Tacking the cck onto that usb cable will have some effect. Now im not really a firm believer in that cables make much difference but many at head fi are and id be interested in what they think. Is it worth using a $300 usb cable if you have to add a cck to it?

I kind of wish i had the lx version now!! But then again i mostly use my ipod classic due to the storage bonus. However if apple would release a 128 or god willing a 256 ipod touch 6g id be on it like white on rice and ccking 24 192 all day long.

Anyone know some places to get short or tailor made usb a2b cables?

Also does apple make a lightning cck that isnt also a cable (like the way an lod cck is?)

The above post item seems to take a while to arrive.
I ordered this one, though black was my color of choice.

You obviously have the lightning CCK that is a cable =).  That wont work with my shabby LOD CCK lol.  Did your 4s work with the 24/192 or did you not get a chance to try it?

iphone4

iphone4(not S).

OS 7.0.6

iphone4 to CCK to usbA -usbB cable - Hifi-M8. Using Flacplayer app.

24/192 FLAC file.

Via CCK (camera connection kit).

As God/Centrance intended.

iphone4 straight to the USB-A hub with Centrance LOD.

iphone4 via speaker

iphone4 via headphones

getting inconsistent readings of 41 and 48. Seems to be settling on 48!?!!.

Hmm, need to find my old Touch4G.

I suppose the next thing to try would be 24/192 > iDevice > CCK > M8 > Balance Output @ line level > 4  pin XLR to dual 3 pin XLR cable > desktop rig balanced amp vs that same file played via iDevice > CCK > m8 > optical out > balanced desktop dac into same balanced desktop amp 0_o

The NFB-28 would be a good one to test as it is a balanced desktop amp/dac with analog inputs as well as digital so there would only be one piece of equipment and is priced around the same as a HiFi M8.

Since the M8 and iDevice is being used as transport in both scenarios, the signal path is the same and we can compare how the DAC and Amp sections perform against an equivalently priced, equivalently spec'd desktop setup.

Although, as far as I know,  there isnt a way to feed an analog signal into the m8 from say the NFB-28 so it would actually be kind of difficult to compare the m8s amp with a DAC other than its own, so maybe we arent getting a full DAC test in this process.  I think we would be getting a full amp test as m8 DAC could be used with both amp sections, however there may be synergys between the amp and DAC sections which would kind of make it crucial to be able to feed another DACs input into the m8s amp to get an accurate picture of things.

I realize we could feed it via optical on the LX version but that would relegate the feeding DAC into a mere transport since the m8s DAC would still be processing the digital signal unless Im missing something.

If anyone has got an idea of how to get another DAC's feed into the the m8 please share.

Also I believe if we did find a way to do this that to do the test properly we would need 2 HiFi m8s to do a fair comparison as the 2nd mate would have to serve as transport into the DAC feeding the first HiFi m8.  Ugh...proper testing...

Received my small usbA-usbB today.

Still an ugly solution just to get 24/96 or 24/192 via current OS touch/iphone.

I think I will stick to the more elegant Venturecraft or Vmoda LOD and be happy with 24/48.

I can get 24/96 on my iPhone 5S and AK10 with the Onkyo HF Player app, not that I can tell the difference. http://www.iriver.com/support/download_view.asp?dNum=1095
