Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread - Page 58

Just gonna say, listening to Nero's Welcome Reality, Jimi Hendrix's Valley's of Neptune, and Shiro Sagisu's Music from "Evangelion:3.0" You Can (not) Redo* soundtrack has been a most seminal moment.
*(The latter is not the theatrical soundtrack but expanded; it is the original music pieces which were then cut later for the film, of which I have the theatrical soundtrack also).

The Heir Audio 4.Ai does not have the visceral bass impact I like, but because of that the music through the HiFi-M8 just flows over me in beautiful waves. The quality of the bass from the HiFi-M8 and into the 4.Ai's truly shines and allows the music to actually breathe. It is amazingly organic and the music just comes together as one piece (a bit like having a single, crossover-less widebander/single driver speaker). In fact, the Heir Audio 4.Ai/HiFi-M8/iPod Classic combo is like having baby John Blue AudioArt JB3 speakers in my ears, but on a scale and quality that my actual speakers could never be even with room treatment.
I just wish I had Noble Audio Kaiser 10 or JH Audio 'Roxanne' Siren Series Freqphase IEM's. I want the latter, but Frank from Toxic Cables is making me a custom Silver Widow IEM cable that will be wholly incompatible with the Roxanne, so the Kaiser 10 is on my list. Sorry Roxanne and pseudo-future Alpha Dogs... frown.gif

The mids is a new experience to me as most of my amps and IEM's are V - centric (JDS Labs cMoy amps and Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 Pro), but hearing clean accurate 'neutral' mids means I can hear the rest of the music clearly.
I use music as a form of escapism (so I don't always listen to the lyrics but the overall music) and I visualise my own stories with most of my music. I actually try to listen to music as if they are a soundtracks to various stories and worlds I create in my mind. The JDS Labs C421/C5 and 4.Ai's I thought gave me a powerful film soundtrack-like sound (especially in regards to the bass), but the boosted bass and somewhat recessed mids actually were detrimental to my musical experience (though the C5 is a great amp and highly recommended, but the HiFi-M8 is a good overkill -_^ ).
I now know (hear) this difference when in direct comparison to the HiFi-M8. It's like I have actually got rid of the window that the C5 had and I can now enter my musical world and finally experiencing it AHHHHHHHHHHHH SOOO COOOOOOOL!!!!! (Was just listening to Radiohead's Feral from the King of Limbs. Not gonna lie, I had an eargasm whilst writing that last sentence biggrin.gif''').

The treble. The greatest single element of the HiFi-M8. I really cannot even get the words right as my hands are shaking. I have had tears when listening to Adagio for Strings from Thomas Schipper’s rendition of Samuel Barber's classical piece.
Don't even get me started when listening to Yoko Kanno's Marcross Plus soundtracks either...
The treble is not sharp, very extended, relaxed as part of the rest of the musical tapestry and just so...nope, the English language is too poor for me to use to describe this part. I'll let someone else make their own point.

I find it very, very hard to multitask whilst listening to the HiFi-M8 as the texture, accuracy, command and grip on the music is just stellar and awe-inspiring.
I can hear detail and layers in music I simply swear did not exist before, but the best bit is that I cannot get tired from the massive amount of much musical information being pushed into my grey matter. It just sucks me in that I have, for two nights in a row, woke at 3 am and just listened to it.
If you care about your sleep, DO NOT BUY THE HIFI-M8 as it will rob you of your 40 winks!!! :')
Actually, JUST BUY THE CENTRANCE HIFI-M8. I'm not joking, do it. Thank me later. Also, I am not being biased. TRUTH.

I don't think I can write reviews very well, but stuff like this I find easier (I prefer actually talking to someone, so my writing is very close to how I speak. It's both a gift and a flaw of my English. My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with the SwiftKey App predictive text also does not help either... >_>).
I genuinely hope this makes sense to readers and hope you enjoy these tid bits of my musical experience.

Since I got my HiFi-M8 I have been running it through its paces, but tonight I am going to listen to the grandmaster treasure of my music library, something I rarely listen to as it is the soundtrack for stories in my mind (so only enjoyed as an occasion, something some of the readers here may understand). It is the music that truly push my mind to another world, but the actual genre and artist may itself be unusual to readers.
I am going to listen to HECQ's Nightfalls. I'm looking forward to this as an event, because that is exactly what it will be.

I also like to add that I don't like listening to my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro's with my HiFi-M8 when my Heir Audio 4.Ai’s sit beside me. There is nothing wrong with the HiFi-M8/COP combo, just that I have better (ickle) cans.
I'll come back to them and the AKG K 701's, sometime, maybe,...[don't judge me and my 4.ai/HiFi-M combo... :S].

WOW!

Double trouble!

I forgot the back.

So funny!  I made an amp-on-DAP sandwich recently with an iPod Video, an iPod Mini, and a FiiO E12 with switchable line out.   My entire music collection was split across two 128GB solid-state-modded players.

Your setup is even better, though.  No cable swapping.

Working on a focused UERM review, but wanted to post here that the M8 is just fantastic with IEMs.  These two devices, along with the 5G Touch is an ideal portable solution.

Edit: never mind...iPod problem, not M8 problem!

I'm only asking the following question because this is the 2nd or 3rd time I have seen people post a similar experience and I'm confused.  The point of the gain settings is to allow the listener to pair the amp with specific headphones (ie: 1 - with IEMS, 2 - with moderately efficient on/over ears, 3 - orthos and other demanding cans).  Why would anyone listen to IEMS on high gain?

To blow their ears off...

More likely he did so just to test "hiss" levels.

Yes you got it I just wanted to show that without IEM mod (-6dB) there would be an audible hiss even on the lowest gain

I get that.  I'm just not sure why it's even worth mentioning that you hear hiss at maximum gain.  It's not intended to be used that way.

My m8 seems to take FOREVER to charge. Normal?
I've never run mine all the way down, but 6-ish hours? Roughly my longest, probably 1/4 to 1/2 charge remaining before I started charge.

That has NOT been my experience. I do not hear hiss. I can hear tape hiss on fade out on certain tracks. But "black background" between tracks on both the iPod and Galaxy S4. Mine has not been modded for IEM's. I do listen at the "lowest" setting.
