Snap@Mike.
I was just listening to my Hifi-M8 with my ATH-CK10 for the first time . after listening yesterday with just my iphone the hifi-m8 certainly makes them shine.

It's a fine balancing act for me. With the HIFI-M8, excellent SQ, pretty limited volume travel but serviceable, very minor (negligible) hiss with music paused, hiss disappears with music playing.

Or just the iPod. Small, light rig, but a bit boomy and flabby in the bass, due I think to output impedance of the iPod.

An oddly tough choice, at least for me. iPod is definitely "good enough" most of the time.

Perhaps a DX50 for ultraportable use is in the cards for you? That's what I intend on doing...assuming everything arrives.

Not in the short run anyway. If the audiophile daps ever get as slick as the iPods, maybe. The Astell & Kern units are close. The AK100 had too much output impedance, cost a bit too much for me. The AK120 costs way too much for me. I've demoed them though. Very nice.

Read up on the DX50, if you have the chance. Fit and finish, as well as overall SQ, are said to be in line with the RWAK100.

Aamefford- I've got a DX50 coming in a few days, so there will be one very nearby to check out if you want.

Any news/confirmation about the  IOS7 compatibility with 24/96 ?

In other words... do I still need to buy the Centrance HiFiM8 (iPhone version) or can I now instead change my pre-order for the "generic" version (USB + ToshLink) M8-LX ??

As it stands, iOS7 will work with a standard USB DAC, just as a computer would. But, you will need an interconnect that goes from a Lightning to USB type B connector, which are not available on the market. The workaround is to use the standard Lightning to USB type A connector plus a female USB Type A to Male USB Type B adaptor. This makes for a very "wirey" setup.

It is also worth keeping in mind that this "feature" of iOS7 is undocumented and unsupported. As a result, it could disappear in future updates, though I think that is unlikely.

I don't believe this is correct. The CCK needs to be in the chain - I don't think there are any reports of USB audio working with IOS7 without it.

Where did you heard this?  I don't think this is correct.

I haven't seen any reports of using USB anything without the CCK.  At this point the CCK for lightning devices is just a lightning to USB A female adapter, but I think there is a chip needed to activate USB mode for lack of a better phrase with the iDevice.  I will make a 30-pin to USB B cable and try on my roommate's phone (I don't have anything iOS7).

So basically for the LX you need Lightning to 30 pin -> CCK -> USB A to USB B right and not Lightning to 30 pin -> 30 pin USB LOD -> USB A to USB B?

There's a simpler way for IOS7 and Lightning. Apple Lightning USB Camera cable > USB A to USB B.
