Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread - Page 32

Strictly conjecture at this point, but I'm getting the impression from your and other comments that the HIFI-M8 may be one of the few amps out there, especially portable, that sounds as good single ended as it does balanced.  I'll have to experiment....

That should be interesting.

So far, the HIFI-M8 sounds so good I don't notice it. Which is very good indeed!

Haven't been listening for that long, but this thing is a real workhorse!

Sorry if this is a dumb question but does the M8 ship with a lightning cable? Anyone have issues connecting with iphone 5?

I was waiting for the reviews to come in before buying - so far so good!

Really interested to hear feedback on the M8 paired with alpha dogs ...

Nope, just a 30-pin to USB cable.

I have no problems using it with an iPhone 5 with the normal lightning cable that comes with iPhone 5, iPad 4/mini.

Same here, but if you are looking for a quality but decently cheap short Lightning to USB interconnect, V-MODA has one out called the Tuono for $25.  It only sticks out about 1 inch connected for the VERZA, and may stick out even less for the M8.

I went to the V Moda website. Tuono looks good but I was hoping for one where the wire into the lightning jack and the USB are at right angles, like the ones Cypherlabs gives for the SOLO. Then the wire hardly sticks out at all. Thanks anyway.

The only other one with right angle that I know and use is from VentureCraft, but at $75 it is a bit over priced.

Amazon ($75 + ship): http://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Adapter-Digital-Short-Cable/dp/B00AQ96U0Y/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1378289509&sr=8-3&keywords=venturecraft

Rakuten Japan (4980 yen + 2500 yen EMS): http://item.rakuten.co.jp/japanshop/c/0000000115/

Rakuten Global ($50 + $25 EMS): http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/japanshop/item/v1lc4a//

Hi, thanks for all these suggestions. They're all roughly the same price and looking at the Lightning end, it looks like the lightning jack is meant to be long and it must be difficult for manufacturers to take the wire out at a right angle closer to the jack; unlike 30 pins where there are some amazingly short stubby 30 pins. I'm not sure I'm explaining it well.

If there is will, there is a way.  However, given how Apple do MFI with their cables, it will be rather difficult to go the other way.  However, since the ID chip for the Lightning has been cracked, I am sure there will be unofficial ones in the future.

I know what you mean.

I am a bit disappointed I have to source my own cable - it pushes the price up further. Add a Tuono cable (10cm, not ideal) plus dealer tax and i'm looking at $900...

30 pin connectors are legacy - all current gen apple products have switched to lightning adapters. Just seems confusing to me why they put out a device specifically targetting idevices, including certification, and not include a cable for the current interface standard.
