I think AmberOzl's point was, if he ever wants to add color to his music, the M8 can do that, while being neutral by default.
That said, it's probably too early  to say how much color does the Theorem add and what kind of synergy does it have with anything etc. etc.
Anyway, this was a thread for the M8 impressions (yes, I keep forgetting it myself).

Yep that was my point. I didn't mean to sound rude or something, I just realized after watching the video, that product is not for me that's all.

Does anyone know if the HiFi-M8 LX versions will support an "iDevice" via the USB input, specifically an iPad output to USB via the Camera Connection Kit?

My iPads work great with my Schiit Gungnir DAC using the CCK and USB so I'm assuming the HiFi-M8 LX would as well but don't want to go through the hassle of returning it if I'm wrong.

The Hi-Fi-M8 looks like the perfect solution for me as a traveling DAC as well as one for use around the house away from my primary listening station. I'd like the flexibility of having the optical in as I have several extra CD players with optical outs.

Sorry if this question is already answered; I've searched this thread and others but was unable to find it being addressed directly.

Mike, agreed, it sounds like a great night. I picture you more as an evangelist of personal audio. Kind of like John the Baptist standing by the river with a HIFI-M8 and a pair of LCD3's, showing what is possible if one would cast off the ibuds and Believe! Baptism by audio, let the music wash over you and cleanse your soul.

(Note - no sacrilege intended. No disrespect meant to Christians or non-Christians. I find a strong connection between music and the soul. I also like to have a bit of fun with Mr. Mercer. Please don't take offense. )

NEVER any disrespect comin' from you brotha!  You know I'm out there evangelizing for the cause.

What a great night, Mike! I enjoy shocking my friends with great audio as well. There is nothing like the reaction of someone who has never heard great personal audio before. You are an ambassador for sound.

It was a FANTASTIC night! First the live music, and that was great because not only did we get to enjoy that, but then we all had the same reference point for which to BLAST off with the HiFi-M8/iPod Classic/Audeze LCD3 rig!!

Yeah watching and listening to their reactions was precious!!

Off topic: how does the LCD3 compare to the HD800 with the M8 balanced?  I was looking at getting the HD800 balanced for my M8 LX, but now I am leaning towards the Alpha Dog balanced.  But if the LCD3 trumps them, then I will go with the LCD3 balanced instead.

^^^(edit - 2 posts up) sacrilege comment was more for those who don't know me, especially if they may be Christian (I am for the record, you might not guess it, but I really do try). You Mr. Mercer have plenty thick skin. If you didn't, I wouldn't poke at it so much. It is never with disrespect, though currently (till tomorrow) with a touch of jealousy until MY HIFI- M8 is in my hands. Should hit my desk around noon, which means I'll be a lost cause the rest of the day at work. Takin' a couple iPods and the HD650's. Open cans are better at work - I can hear the phone and people sneaking up on me.

Great question. Just tried it on my iDevice M8 - iPad > CCK > USB B input (normally computer input). Works fine. LX is almost certainly going to work as well.

After coming up working for Hp (Harry Pearson, Founder of The Absolute Sound magazine for those of you who don't know) my skin in bullet-proof.  I know we all interpret differently, so I expect us to all have distinguishing reactions to the same gear.  Nobody, especially me or any other audio review, IMO, can say what's "best" because all of our "bests" are different.  Simple as that.  And, I understand your jealousy my friend!!  I've been completely glued to this damn thing since last Tuesday!

Listening to it RIGHT NOW

Now, I always like to state in these cases that no matter what ANYBODY may say - this is all subjective - so I'll give you my opinion here.  Also know that I LOVE my Mad Dogs, and I also pre-ordered a pair of Alpha Dogs after hearing them at Headmasters.  I had to say to Dan: Damn you!!  LOL

I also own and love my HD800's - but I look for different things from them than I do my Audeze LCD3's (my preferred reference and favorite headphone of All-time).  The HD800's have that Stax-like surreal soundstaging.  They can trick you into thinking you left a stereo on behind you, and they do that and other things very well.  They also connect me to the music emotionally - which is the NUMBER ONE thing for me.

However, in this case (as I've tried all three - but Mad Dogs NOT Alpha of course) I would highly recommend the LCD3.  The synergy between the HiFi-M8 and the Audeze LCD3 is overwhelming in its musical presentation.  By that I mean everything is big, everything is wide, everything hits me emotionally.  This portable rig brought me to tears at the house party I was talkin' about on Saturday night.  There's MAGIC there.  IMO.

Thanks, the reason now I am leaning towards either the Alpha Dog or the LCD3 is that I HATE to pay extra for custom balance cable for the HD800, and both AD and LCD3 comes with the 4 pin XLR plug by default for my LX 4XL.  Although I do like closed back better, I think I rather pay more and do it right the first time.
