Centrance Hifi-M8 and Hifi-M8 LX (8 versions!) impressions thread - Page 88

btw, any other amp recommendation for the K10?

I already have a C5D, but I want to know whether other amps will make it sound better,

and also will there be any hiss when paired with hi-fi m8?

(posted in other thread but no reply)

Could it be some setting problem I have somewhere, that I can change. I've installed and reinstalled the CEntrance drivers (though didn't do it again this go round).
Appreciate any help,thanks.
I have had the exact issue you described with my iPod Touch 5g. My M8 sounds fine w/ my Mac Mini PC and iPhone
6+ but I can consistently get those vinyl like blips that annoy the %#@$ outta me. I sent my M8 in and they swapped the volume pot for me because of the scratchy sound it made when adjusting the volume but no luck with iPod Touch 5g pairing. I thought it was due to my "iem modification" but it seems not now.

I sent it back to them twice, told me it was fine, did exactly the same thing when connected to my PC again. I think this has sometimes to do with settings/sample rates, stuff like that, But for the life of me I was never able to get it right, just stopped using it (should sell one of these days).

Just got my HiFi-M8 back from Entrance with the $100 modification. Big difference! Totally quiet between songs. Did not hear it with my HD700 but for sure the Shure SE846.

Great company, great service and a great product!

I still have the M8 (still not using it either...), not familiar with the $100 modification, can you elaborate?

Not so good in english but what happened is that the amplifier was "sounding" when it was suppose to be 100% quiet, think it is called "black".

So it was a strange sound like when a cable is not properly stil in a connector when there was no music. Now it is gone! So amplifier is 100% quiet when it should.

Bought it some years ago so no warranty but Centrance offers an after modification for 99 bucks and it is really worth it! Thought it was my iPod first so changed to an iPod touch same thing, tried iPhone same thing but now just QUIET!

I believe BasilFawlty is speaking of the "IEM Modification" which lowers the noise floor of the amp section so the low impedance/high efficiency headphones or iems don't hum during quiet passages of music. It's a $99.00 factory mod. I had it done to my HiFiM8 too when I first ordered mine. I also get the vinyl popping sound with any iPod but not my MacMini. I too sent it in for repair but was told nothing was wrong and had the volume pot replaced. Seems similar to others experiences. CEntrance does have amazing customer service and are always available to talk to as well.

Yup that is correct.

After sending it back twice, just gave up. Have an LH Labs Geek Out Special Edition, very good sounding and didn't have the same issue, so just use that out of my PC.
Oh well, problem not solved (at least, not mine).

So if Im using headphones then no need for this Mod?

I will say that the IEM Mod will only be of value to you if you are hearing any hum/hiss/noise floor with your current headphones. Typically iem's that are under 20 ohms will pick up on the unmodded HiFiM8's noise floor. You should also note that with this mod you lose overall gain range or power in order to attenuate said noise. So with full sized headphones you should be fine.

Wished they would come out with a new Hifi8.

Have a look at the Mytek Clef.  It includes MQA decoding, but it does not have the really useful EQ switches on the M8.

At times the hifi8 sounds great with no boost. Usually I need to boost the bass or treble on other amps but not always with the hifi8. Hifi8 really excells with flac recordings.Thxs Ill look into the Mytek Clef.
