One stupid question: has anyone tried the SE846 with their M8? Any hiss or problems?
Thanks a lot.

A bit late to the party on this, but I've had my m8 for about a month now, and I switch back and forth between my HD700's and SE846's at work depending on how much isolation I want/need.  I hear no noise when I put the m8 @ 1ohm and I use the medium gain setting.  They sound great paired with this.  The bass boost of the m8 can really make those 846's hammer away on your eardrums, I leave it at the lowest setting, but you can get some major bass out of them with this thing.

I've got latest top MBP also. I would suggest not to use VLC player, as you wouldn't get the best from the M8.

Try programs like Audirvana, Media Centre or Amarra 3.0 (my favourite for sound quality)

You can get 30 day trials for all apps I believe.  You'll be able to hear the difference then I believe.

Same here, once you have a volume that you consider matching, then you may have a proper comparison. Vlc is not using the m8 dac properly especially on the hires files anyway, I ended up buying audirvana after the trial.

The problem doesn't really seem to be VLC though. Even when I'm using the headphone out on my iPhone straight to the HD650's they sound better than with the M8. With the M8 just sounds veiled in the highs to me. The tracks have much more air to them without it. I'm using the included USB A-B cable that came with it. Does anyone think that could be creating an issue? I'm really not one to subscribe to all these cable debates out there but I'm open to suggestions in this case.

Cheers guys.

Which iphone are you using?
Which hifi- m8 version do you have?
Is your impedance switch set to the right(1ohm).?
Try flacplayer app.

What does it sound like with different headphones.?

Ah iphone 6 sorry. I see.

Yep, using iPhone 6 with FLAC player app. Have M8 LX, using USB B input. For a 300 Ohm headphone, you're suggesting I use the 1 Ohm setting? I thought the rule was as close to 10% as you could get which is why I've been using the 11 Ohm setting. I thought that for IEM's you'd use the 1 ohm setting.

11ohm would be recommended for your headphone. I do find a lower output settings gives more space and detail though.

I had a few days now with the m8 and the Alpha Prime and so far I am still puzzled about the ohm setting. as you said, the lower settings sound clearer and the 11ohm (to the left I know ;)) tames things down, which is a nice option aswell but most times I prefer the dynamics of 1 ohm. either way, this is an interesting option to have.

Just to confirm the ohm switch goes 11/2/1 on the hifi-m8.

wink.gif there was confusion in the past.

Has anyone been paying attention to Sony's CES announcement of the ZX2 DAP?  Look like it could connect to the HiFi-M8, and have way better battery life then the previous ZX1.

This one could get me off of Apple stuff....

Yes, yes, and yes.  However, Sony is getting a lot of flags from people bitching about the ZX2 price, which shows that 99.999% of people out there have no understanding of the portable HiFi (Head-Fi) market.

I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on this. Maybe its the timing of it as I was about to buy an M8.

What? It seems we all totally trust Michael hundreds of dollars for a very good amp but we don't entrust him with only 25 dollars of our hard earned cash to design a fashionable t-shirt?

I am tempted to but I don't want to be the reason that CEntrance has to throw all their industrial design prowess behind designing ONE single T-Shirt for Koolpep because nobody else buys one.

Maybe it's a missing tag line for the T-Shirts? I mean, "Team Hifi- Skÿn".... A bit thin....

Here are some, help get some more please as I am not the most creative person:

I have some Skÿn in the game!
Beauty is Skÿn deep.
Be comfortable in your Skÿn!
Absolutely pure Skÿn!
I believe in Skÿn care!
Men care for their Skÿn!

I am sure @mgoodman and his CEntrance team will have fun choosing one and adding it to the campaign so we can buy it and raise the bar financially ....so please help cerate something awesome.

Cheers,
K

Posted this on the other CEntrance M8 thread, but I'll copy it here in case someone just reads one or the other.

OK, it's probably on this 359 page thread somewhere (or it's also large sister thread), but that's a lot to go through, so I'll ask here. I noted the Android issues above, doesn't connect to anything that's not A and K. I thought maybe I could use otg and connect that way, at least use it to listen to TIDAL. I also have USB audio pro app on my HTC One M8, don't keep a ton of music on the sd card, but have some I could listen to, could always change the 64gb card to 128 (bit of a pain transferring things, but would be a possible use if...). So, connected otg cable (tried a few, as I have been previously told some just don't work with a particular phone), TIDAL into CEntrance M8, didn't work. Tried USB Audio Pro, didn't work. Looked in settings, can't find much to do on phone, usb Audio Pro has a setting to use usb items, selected it, nothing. Get a message that there is no usb device recognized. I have connected the CEntrance to my PC, works fine. Any ideas? Likely something I'm not doing, some setting or other, but haven't a clue what. Thanks.
