Thanks to JupiterKnight for the link to the review. (Best-sounding...ever tested)

I got to hear a set of Senn HD-800 and HD-700 with the HiFi M8 with FLAC files and USB Recorder Pro. While I can't have these because of the sound leakage (my family would NEVER put up with that), it was the best I have ever heard Sennheiser sound. I may have to take another look at the HiFi Man 6 and the Audeze LCD-2. I know they leak too :-(

I think that you really need me to sit down and talk to your family.. there's some things that needs to be straighten out..

In my situation. We have this arrangement, that when Daddy (that's me!) needs his down time with his leaking headphones then you use earplugs:wink_face:

I had a dream last night of pairing my M8 with an Audeze LCD-XC...

Seems fitting to say considering you don't want sound leakage.  But yes, I might have just reported the first HiFi-M8 dream...:o

I asked this earlier so Ill try again..

The m8 does 16/48 DAC with iDevices but...

My iPod will play 24/48 ALAC files so what happens when that hits the DAC?  Does it slide through at 24/48 or get dropped to 16/48?

I don't know the answer, but think it probably just wouldn't play.

Here I sit, downstairs before the family gets out of bed, listening to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" on the HDTracks 24/96 ALAC download.  I just got done with Linda Ronstadt's "Heart Like a Wheel" in 24/96, also from HD Tracks (Man, I forgot just how good Linda was when she started out).  As our dear friend @mikemercer mentions frequently as he gushes about his HIFI-M8 - sure I have potentially "better" desktop equipment (ok, @mikemercer has some killer stuff - mine is more modest), I don't miss any of it when I listen to the HIFI-M8.  Yup, it's that good....

It may just be the tubes, but to my ears I'm getting more out of my Ultrasone Sig Pros with the M8 than through my BiFrost and Lyr (though they, the Schiits, are clear winners with my LCD-2s)

The 24/48 files do seem to play but who knows whats going on behind the scenes...

I wouldn't worry too much about this, as dropping word depth is a lot less of an issue than lowering bitrate.

Which iDevice are you using, if its a Touch, there are several apps that let you see what bit rate you are playing in.

A few weeks ago I sold my M8. Since I was using it with only CIEM's, I was kind of regretting the choice of 4pin XLR out (really should have gone with RSA). I figured I'd part with it and go back to my 5g iPod touch or DIY imod plus portable amp for awhile.

My portable amp (Pico Power) is fantastic, and sounds outstanding with my CIEM's when fed from my desktop converter and DAC. The iDevice alone (and the modded one) feeding the Pico Power/CIEM's doesn't sound bad, by any means, but absolutely falls flat on it's face compared to the M8.

What a step backwards. Ouch! So I'll say this- the M8 is outstanding. I had absolutely no complaints about the sound. Paired with my CIEM's, I continually noticed the inner clarity, sound stage, and punchy, clean bass. Just nothing lacking, really. For my preferences and expectations of a portable product, the M8 just gets it done.

Count in the flexibility (usb > optical converter, usb DAC, tone shaping) and it's a package you may not fully appreciate until it's gone!

I haven't written a review of the M8 yet, so consider this my review. Glowing? Yes. Appreciate the beauty and flexibility of this unit, folks.

All that said, I've just ordered a replacement M8. RSA out and low gain mod. Optimized for CIEM's. Again, the wait will begin. March I believe for more to begin shipping? I waited much longer for the first one. This will be a walk in the park.

And thanks Michael for the personal service. Top notch.

I'll be real interested in your take on the iem mod with your full size cans. I may still consider it...

In another news: an area sheep just got his M8 LX 4XL and can't be happier pairing up with the AK120.
