Mercator 6J1 - Very Inexpensive Chinese 2 X 6J1 Tube Pre-amp, Head-fi Amp. Consensus is that this is NOT an LD Clone - Page 2

I used SmallTao. I paid the order and then they contacted the seller, told me the 20 days delay, and told me that shipping cost estimate in their site was wrong and shipping would cost $10 more, and offered to cancel if I wasn't ok with that. Everything quite quick and in an english better than mine. Total shipped ended being less than $58.

I know this looks a lit like LDI+ on the outside, but the board doesn't look much like it at all.  The LDI+ is a hybrid amp with tubes on the input stage and a solid state output stage.  I am not too sure what the exact topology of this amp is as I haven't worked with tubes before, but I don't see any opamp on the board, which is what you would expect if this were really a clone of the LDI+.  I would also be interested in more tech specs about the amp.  It does look like a pretty cool piece for the price.

haejuk,

Very true. I don't feel this is a LD clone.
Unsure what it is I don't have the knowledge around tubes to figure it out.

For the price I paid(low) it was a pure gamble but I can't say its horrible nor am I disappointed for the price.

Looking the photos of the PCB of this one and the Little Dot 1+, they seem to have little in common. Thread title change?

Would seem like a good idea, but i ant the original poster.

If anyone wants more details images, let me know since my warranty is all-ready gone :)

Received. Gonna try it the next week as I wil be on hollydays with stock valves plus some GE JAN 5654 and those Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV that LD users love so much.

I'd love to know how the Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV compare to the GE JAN 5654

I find bass quite lacking. I have tried with stock tubes and the tubes mentioned in my last post. The power suppy I received outputs 19'85V instead of 24V. Can it be related?

Unsure if the power supply is causing you issues, mine blew up the second day I Had it :)

I am using my own PSU

Will try to contact the guy in QQ and ask him, but with the time zone differences it won't be easy...

Can you not find a 24v PSU locally ?

I hope your Mandarin is up to scratch! he is very helpfully i will admit that.

I *think* he speaks a little english. We will see :)

Got a new power supply locally. Bass is still missing some strength.

Dear sirs, I'm an idiot. Bass is perfectly OK. I was using the Pre Out of my Home Cinema to test it and I totally forgot to tell the receiver that it had no subwoofer connected, so all the deep bass was going to an unplugged subwoofer instead of the headphone amp.

At least it was something simple :)

Now that you fixed that whats the difference between the Voshkod 6ZH1P-EV and the GE's ?
