The Fiio X5 Thread - Page 534

The x5 as a dac works brilliantly with foobar - unlike others i am using it with vista and it's fine, using sox upsampler to 192/24 and headphone cross-feed, replay gain set to album into an external amplifier (neco soundlab 12v) and nad hp50 - blissful.

If you haven't used Sox, it seems to smooth out the rough edges of some older or poorly recorded tracks (eg 1920's jazz vocals - victoria spivey etc.)

I tried a dacmagic xs but had issues with the driver and connection so returned it, i had not intended to use the x5 as a dac but tried it out after returning the dacmagic and it has worked with no issues at all and sounds great.

When playing a song just after the player is turned on, it starts at 0:02 instead of 0:00. Then when you select another song it starts normally at 0:00. I think this bug started in 1.23beta and still carried out in 2.0.
I want to be able to start at 0:00 with the first song I choose just after X5 is powered on. I've only tried it with FLAC or mp3 but 100% if it's the first song to play it starts at 0:02. I hope you can fix this simple problem. Thanks! :)

Same here, mate! FW 1.23 beta and 2.00!

I couldn't agree more... It's flagship model for crying out loud...

Maybe becoz high-end chip do not have this feature? I think high-end equipment do not have EQ becoz they think it should restore the original sound instead of changing the sound of it... ?

Multi-bands EQ (which has to be done in software) is one of the most demanded feature on X3, as many find the hardware EQ too limiting. So that's what and why you get it on X5..

In these years, we are all beta testers for everything. Microsoft called it Service Pack, Apple just release new MacOS...

The only reason that you think Sony don't do that is becoz they even don't bother to fix bug on their software! And if you are considering ZX1, I'd say worst choice ever, it doesn't worth the money!

You couldn't be more right.  Every tech product is evolving, adding new features, and fixing bugs throughout it's lifecycle via updates of some sort.  Windows, OS X, iOS, Android, PlayStation 3/4, Xbox 360/One all products that I own that are constantly being updated (almost always for the better).  It's the nature of tech today, products are more complicated and thus will likely need more bug fixes and we now have the infrastructure to easily deliver updates and patches with so many people having broadband.  It's something that I have no problem with as I've always been an early adopter of new tech and will continue to be.

AmazonUK are currently advertising the X5 as being reduced from £450 to £289.99.  I'm disputing this with them, as AFAICT it's always been available for £289.99 in the UK, from both authorised resellers, and in line with the SRP of $350.  But maybe I'm wrong?  Can anyone confirm that this item was previously on sale for £450 from a legitimate reseller, and for a minimum of a month?  I can't find any evidence of this anywhere.  I don't like the fact Amazon are claiming a discount, and I believe it actually breaches UK sale pricing legislation.

Also, they claim it's been available on their site since February 17th, but all the information I can find indicates a UK release date between March and April.  I can't access the Fiio site just now because it's sloooowwww, presumably because of the 2.0 firmware downloaders :)

Thanks guys!

Just updated mine to FW2.0... No problems whatsoever, plus media library update was a snap.

This is definitely one of the best bang-for-buck DAP available. Only downside for me is the flimsy wheel, just hoping it's just a feelng and that it would actually last.

Totally agree back with you.

Products are getting more complicated and with such short product life cycle, developers will never have the time to completely fix the bug.

Has anyone seen the HS7 carrying case for sale anywhere in the US?  I noticed that treoo.com has some in stock, but the shipping estimates to the US are really high.

People complaining about GETTING updates to their devices' firmware.

Just when you thought you had seen everything...

I don't think it is about updates but that sometimes as a consumer there are products you feel that was not ready to be released yet. I've experienced it with hifi daps where the UI is horrendous where it should be worked on more before being released. I don't feel the X5 is the case when I tried it out for a bit but it does have some areas where it can improve.
