This is excellent news! I will re-place my order as soon as this is sorted out. Thanks for listening!

I thought it was a genuine programming mistake with maybe a wrong line in the code or something.

It doesn't mean the X5 is a bad player. I think it is the best choice for high quality DAP at the moment.
No problem. It's just that this was already discussed back when people were previewing the X5. Some complained about it at first but soon got used to it. I just don't want everything to become a "bug". Fiio's working hard to make the X5 a damn good DAP, and people jumping in to the thread now see post after post complaining about "bugs". I just don't think it's fair to a company like Fiio who are participating so heavily in this thread. What other company engages their customers so directly on Head-fi? Time for some positivity, folks!

Guys,

Got my X5 today, was able to grab one of three available from Focus Camera yesterday. Anyways, I've encountered a fairly big problem in that 24/88 FLAC files play with a ton of static. Even after I pause playback and try navigating the menus, I hear mechancial noise and static in the earphones with every button push. It stays noisy until I go and play a non 24/88 FLAC file. Has anyone else seen this? Any help is appreciated, I like what I see so far. I am using Shure SE846 earphones and tried the 1.20 and 1.22 Beta firmwares and have the same FLAC issue.

Thanks,

Y2J

How about other files/formats? Is everything else ok? Others have already raised the flag about issues with 88 and 176 files, so I'm betting Fiio will investigate and fix the issue soon. In the meantime, maybe try down sampling to 24/44.1.

Other files and formats work, but I have a bunch of 24/88 FLAC from HDTracks and my own DVD-Audio rips...Hopefully they can address this as there is something wrong with the FLAC decoding.

Dear all,

I have been asked to compile a list of bugs and feature requests from users. As have been noted by other users, there is a bugzilla bug tracking platform for the X3 and X5
https://app.devzing.com/FiiO/bugzilla/

If you have entered any bugs on the X5 in this platform, please also vote for the bugs you entered and also any other bugs you have encountered on the list by clicking on a particular bug and clicking on the "vote" link (on the "Importance:... with x votes" line).

This way the number of votes on bugs should reflect the number of users encountering the problem.

You are allowed a maximum of 3 votes per bug (to reflect the importance you assign to a particular bug) out of a total of 25 votes for all bugs.

Please upgrade to firmware 1.20 or 1.22 before testing for bugs.

Best regards,
Joseph Yeung

Great suggestion, Joe! I already participated in the bugzilla, using 25 votes for X3 bugs. Do I get another 25 votes for my pre-ordered X5, too?

Could people refrain from writing bugs and voting on them until they have at least received or previewed a unit? biggrin.gifredface.gif

Thought I'd weigh in on some of the comments on the last few pages.

- First off, I was the one who posted comments on the FW1.21 beta firmware and I apologize to Fiio.

- I agree that it's weird and redundant that the volume buttons act as a Prev/Next function when in Lockscreen2. However, for Lockscreen1 it makes perfect sense.

- I like the way the home screen wheel direction works. I think of it as I need to scroll towards the items I want to choose just like in the other menus.

- If Fiio could use the storage capabilities of the TF card to help index the library it would be a perfect solution, especially given the high capacity of the cards these days.

- I've only had one lock up during the last week of very heavy use. Much, much better compared to my X3.

- My X5 displays hidden files that my MacBook Pro insists on placing on my card. My X3 did not display these files and it is very annoying to browse by folders because of this. Anyone else?

- A few people have asked how the X5 sounds with the m-100's so here are my thoughts:

All of my sources are REDBOOK CD lossless rips or high resolution 24bit 48-192kHz. The m-100's are very bass heavy and can sound muddy on a lot of tracks. I think the bass is pretty tight and fun to listen to, but it's really too much sometimes. However, with the EQ I can make the X5 and m-100 combination sound a lot closer to my LCD-2.3. I can hear all of the details in the highs and mids and still enjoy a fun bass without it overwhelming the the other frequencies and with no clipping. Fiio reduced the output for the EQ by 6db for clipping headroom and it really works out great to 'cut' the undesired frequencies instead of boosting. I really like this sound and I find myself listening to it more than my LCD/Pan Am combination (very good together BTW), partially because it's more convenient but mostly because I really like the sound. I don't get the same liquid sound as from the LCD-2, but it's very good. Fun.

Here is my EQ for the m-100's.

- Adding the e12 seems to add more space to the sound.

- The last thing I wish the X5 had was more than one custom preset for the EQ. I'm not really big on EQ, but it does come in handy when needed.

By the time I post this there'll probably be another 4 pages in this thread so I should end it here.

Cheers

Edit: I should point out that High Gain at a volume of 80 would be too loud for me with the m-100's. I was testing the X5 with the LCD-2 and have since hooked up the line out to the e12 and haven't reduced the volume and gain since. I don't want others to hurt their ears by mimicking what they see in my pic.

but we are very young in DAP compare with iRiver, Apple , this take time to learn and people have lots of choice.

BTW, I am testing the new UI in X3 already. and the new firmware in X5 will also support some 32Bit music.

So, we are not lazy, we are listening and working. just try to let you guys knows the SQ is still the most important thing to us to improve by the new firmware .

No one is accusing you of being lazy and we all understand that you guys are new at it.    That being said, understanding the cause of the issues and being able to live with them are 2 different things unfortunately, and the reason we are asking for these changes is not to blame you but in order to be able to buy and use the product.

Given that there is no audio system in existence which can reproduce even the full dynamic range of 24 bits, let alone 32, my personal suggestion would be to focus on things that are more important.  Unless, of course, you guys feel that 32 bits is more important to customers than whatever other issues have been mentioned here, in which case it is your decision on how to proceed.

And that was excellent news by JoeBloggs that you guys may be able to fix the 5800 song limit (and I will suggest having a stern word with the engineer who suggested shaving internal memory so much that you cannot even store the database files in there - there is sensible cost-cutting, and that was not it).

Does anyone know if it's ok to use a charger that's beyond the recommended 5V 2A? If I used a 5V 6A charger would it charge faster or explode?

Well, I certainly didn't mean that I'm going to start filing bugs on a DAP I haven't even touched yet wink.gif. I just know there are other X3 owners who pre-ordered the X5 and will be eager to help make it even better by participating in the bugzilla.

So, will we get 25 votes each for the X3 and X5, Joe?

James,

You are listening and fixing things and improving things in the X5.  If you keep to your promises I'll be sure to buy and X1 and X7 when you release them.  Just don't disappear on us.  You have a fanbase now and I am sure my friends will love to see and hear my x5 compared to their ipod shuffles.  Initial sales is the best marketing so thanks again for all the hard work.  I hope the complaints and wishes of this forum don't stress you out.  We "for the most part" wish to be constructive providers of concerns.  We think you have a great product.

There are many other players coming out AP100, DX90, CalyxM but I chose your product because you are here listening.  No other reason than that.  Arguably many features between players are similar but none of them come with feedback and updates from JamesFiio.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

I actually think he might've meant 32kbps files. It was a request from a user who wanted to put some very low bitrate files on his X3 - audio transcriptions, audiobooks, and the like. The X3 didn't support such low bitrate files, so James and Joe said they'd add in that functionality in an upcoming firmware update.
