Thanks, I'm trying this now. Strange because the card is brand new and working perfectly on my pc :\

EDIT: Nothing... i removed a 24 bit 88.1 album and now it's stopping at 1319 :(

RE-EDIT: I even changed to Slot 2, it's now freezing at 1338 :(

The thing is, even "genuine" SD cards are still flash memory, and in the grand scheme of things it's not that old tech, and is still fairly unreliable when it comes to data security (I know a bit about enterprise data security and backups). Sometimes it's just a bad card. However, my first note would be to put the card back in the PC and wipe it, reformat, and try loading your music again. Or, let the X5 reformat the card for you, then re-load your music and try.

And make sure that, if you format it in a PC, it's NTFS and not exFAT, which is the default.  In fact, it's probably better just to format it in the X5, which will format to FAT32.

What will be a big issue for me is if two separate memory cards do not show up as one volume when using folder view. I’ve got 2 x 128gb cards on their way, and do not want to have to constantly select which card I want to access depending on where the particular album I want to listen to is saved.

Is anyone able to shed some light on whether this is an issue?

You described the issue perfectly......card 1 & card 2.

So for those that have over 5800 files spread over 2 memory cards (surely I won’t be alone in doing this), there is no way to view all folders without having to switch between memory cards…

Is it possible to cancel a mp4nation pre-order?

If the folders from two SD cards get displayed together as one location, then that's not exactly a proper folder browsing. Some users will not be happy if their folders are jumbled up and don't know which folder comes from which SD card.

I use the ID3 tag mode for browsing files (since I don't have 5800 files), and use the folder mode if I want to choose something specific that the tag mode can't accomplish (e.g. I keep my DSD files in SD card 2).

X5 doesn't need extra amping whilst I use a CONTI V3 to humanize the sound of the AK.

By the way, I notify one big issue and I hope it can be corrected: X5 doesn't read 24Bits/88,2khz files. I tried two different albums and both have the same problem. For information, I've downloaded last firmware available on FIIO site. My files are FLAC or WMA Lossless.

Hi Sherif, I'm looking at possibly "upgrading" from AK100 to X5, but was wondering what setup you're using to compare? Specifically what head/earphones are you using?

I agree that browsing the two SD cards separately makes sense, and can actually be a good thing, e.g. I'm planning to use my X5 when I fly long-haul.  It would be nice to keep an extra card for audio books that I can drop in to replace one of the music cards. Talk about overkill, though -- I usually rip my audio books to 96k and playing them on a fine instrument like the X5 is a bit like giving a toddler a Gibson Strat to learn to play guitar. ;)

One thing about folders, though: if playing folders can't be done gapless then I really have to reconsider whether I want to keep my X5 which, otherwise, I love.  I have more than 5800 files on the two 64 Gb cards as it is.  I listen to complete albums, never individual songs, and the only way I can access my entire collection is by folder browsing.  Gapless has to work in folder mode.

Outside I use the Momentum, Earsonics SM3 V2 or FINAL Audio Heaven VI. At home the HIFIMAN HE_500.

My X5 functions normally as a USB DAC and storage w/ firmware 1.2.

Thanks guys! I formatted the card from my pc in NTFS yesterday, tomorrow I try and format it from the Fiio.

Another strange thing, I have a vinyl rip of Daft Punk's Random Access Memories @ 96/24. Strange thing is that EQ is not working when listening to that particular album!

Mine works fine. No problems in storage mode or in USB DAC mode with 1.2 firmware.

Thanks. The stock AK100 output impedance causes problems with some 'phones. Do you find the X5 is equally better with all of these head/earphones or are some more pronounced than others?

I particularly like the X5 with Earsonics IEM and the HIFIMAN. With the X5, the Momentum sound seems to be thinner with less definition. Heaven VI is good too as it adds smoothness without weakness.

IMO, my Earsonics and HIFIMAN are very close to the sound I like: pretty neutral, big soundstage, black background, good PRAT.

The best headphone / IEM does not exist as it depends the kind of sound you like.

Can anyone with the Audeze LCD-XC and the X5 comment on the synergy.
