The easy answer is to use the x5 to format your cards to guarantee their compatibility.

Just checked with Justin and they have 15 more units beyond their preorders less the one I just ordered. Great service by the way. Go get them if you want them before they are gone.

I believe other people should know what B&H has told me about their delivery date. Now if you are trying to imply that the other companies such as MP4nation & headphone have been lying about their shipment dates, that is certainly not correct. B&H is the only company that I dealt with that has advertised a preorder with absolutely no known delivery date. Headphone is taking preorders and they have the tracking numbers for their X5 shipments. That is a big difference and when I come to headfi, I expect to find facts and honest opinions. I'm sorry if anybody has taken offense over my complaint about B&H's questionable behavior. I imagine they must normally be a reputable company in most instances, but in this particular case they did not live up to my expectations. I'm simply trying to help anyone else who is trying to get an EARLY shipment of the X5.

BTW, B&H's latest ads are showing that the X5 is shipping on Thursday. I'm not dealing with them anymore, so I didn't call to ask them if their ad is correct this time. But just maybe the salesperson at B&H doesn't know the actual status of the X5 shipment. I'm only guessing, because nobody at B&H has told me anything other than that they had no idea of the delivery date. Peace out.

I'm not getting personal.  You're attempting to smear the most reputable on-line retailer with whom I've been doing extensive business, amounting to thousands and thousands of dollars, for decades.

You were not told by B&H that they were getting the X5 ahead of anyone else.  What you read here on head-fi.org was not posted by B&H.  And I am not implying anything about other companies.  As I stated earlier, other reputable companies provided a range of dates within which they expected delivery.  "headphone" is HeadRoom, which has its site at www.headphone.com.  As I mentioned, I pre-ordered from them, and they never gave me a shipment date.  They said that they expected to receive shipment within a range of dates and, as it turns out, they were correct -- the X5s arrived today (a little over an hour ago, according to the rep I spoke with), and pre-orders will ship out today.

If you are someone who thinks, "I read it on the internet (and, particularly, in an anonymous internet web forum), therefore it must be true," then you are truly naive.  Next time, call the retailer before you pre-order or back-order.  Don't rely on hearsay that you read on an internet forum where everyone posts anonymously.  I called B&H before ordering from HeadRoom and the rep I spoke with checked with buyer who advised that there was no confirmed date for the incoming shipment, though it was expected in "a week or two."  The buyer also couldn't guarantee the number of units in the shipment.  These are facts provided by B&H to me, and it was based on these facts that I made my purchasing decision.  If you had bothered to call B&H, you would have learned the same thing -- there's no secret code for getting information from B&H.

The operative phrase in your post is, "I'm only guessing."  Indeed, you are only guessing, based on your completely erroneous assumptions, your incorrect conclusions based on what you've read in this thread, and your complete ignorance of exactly how retailers of goods manufactured by other companies run their businesses.  You're not trying to help anyone, you're only trying to hurt B&H by bad-mouthing them without justification.

I do think, however, that you are correct about avoiding B&H in the future.  I suspect they and their customers will appreciate that.

exFat is NOT the same as fat32 and, according to Fiio, will not work with the X5.

If I get a smaller 8GB card does it have to be XC class 10?  Will HC micro SD card work for software updates?

You mentioned one of the batman soundtracks so thats why I made the second comment :P

But it's been a known issue that Fiio pledged they will fix in the upcoming firmware update for both X3 and X5, so that's why I just don't see the point in continuing to gripe about it (or use a known buggy feature) :P

Just got this from B&H:

"Please be advised that the FIIO PORTABLE HIGH RESOLUTION MUSIC PLAYER you have on backorder is expected to arrive at our warehouse in 3-5 days. As soon as we receive it from the vendor/manufacturer we will promptly ship it to you. We apologize for this delay and for any inconvenience."

Transcend 64GB MicroSDXC Class10 UHS-1 Memory Card with Adapter 45 MB/s (TS64GUSDU1E)

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced that a Class 10 card is necessary for an X5.  First of all, the X5 reads from the card -- it only writes if you are transferring music to the X5 via the USB port on the X5, and that's not the fastest way to do it.  Class 10 is needed for low-compression video codecs and other very high data speed transfer applications.  The data stream for music, even compressed by a lossless codec or uncompressed, is much, much less than video and doesn't require video speeds.  If my "cheapie" 128 Gb cards don't work out (and it's beginning to look like they won't), I'll probably buy a couple of Class 10 64-Gb cards for interim use, but once Sandisk has 128 Gb cards available, I'll use the smaller cards in my Canon 60D, which records video and bursts of 18-Mb stills, and for which a Class 10 card makes sense.

Nope, class 4 would do fine if it saves a few bucks.

I couldn't agree with you more PTravel..I'm staying away from B&H... I just passed on to the 30 expats I know here in Saudi that B & H  might not be a good idea with how there reputation is on handling customers loyalty. I just did a Pre Order with someone else more reliable. Thanks for the detailed essay on how I should shop online

I'm going to use the X5 along with an small powerful portable amp to get the most out of my HD650's.  Specifically I'm looking at the VorzAMP pure II or the Portaphile Micro amp. They are about 1" shorter than the X-5 but I think it would look decent and sound incredible.  Any thoughts re: this combo?  Here is a review and some pictures... http://www.headfonia.com/portaphile-micro-untexan/ and here...http://ohm-image.net/opinion/audiophile/sound-quality-review-vorzge-vorzamp-pure-ii

If you read the Fiio X5 user manual, it recommends using a card of at least Class 6 speed.  You can download the manual, together with firmware updates and drivers etc.at:-

Yeah, the class 4 will be fine, though. The price difference is so little these days, may as well just get a 10. Should clarify, the person I answered was asking only about a card to use for firmware upgrades exclusively.

Here here.  Having read the various threads on the subject I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.  If they were subject to UK consumer law, they would be on very dodgy ground.

Just got tracking info from HeadRoom! Woo!
