I'm looking for a high quality fun sounding DAP.  Would the X3+E12 combo be a better option than the X5 ?

Many thanks. Best Buy doesn't have them here either. In fact if it wasn't from reading about it here on the threads I wouldn't have even known they exist.

James mentioned that the x3 and x5 have different sound signatures as with the upcoming x1. X5 being warmer from what I have read. To me a warmer sound = more fun but hear it for yourself. Your ears are what matters. I have a receiver I use with my computer and the Denon receivers are more warm sounding to me so I chose that over Yamaha.  Both great consumer receivers.  I wouldn't use a receiver for an audiophile stereo setup but maybe home theater but for a computer it works great.

Knowing the amp is pretty good on the x5 I felt it would be good enough on its' own. Later considering one of the following amps:

V200 (seems like a quality product and good synergy with TH900)

Burson soloist (Hear good things with TH900 pairing)

Chord Hugo (Yes AMP/DAC)  Looking for TH900 & X5 impressions here

Bakoon mk3. (Really good reviews on these)

Not sure yet. Need to pare it down to a couple to audition.

Most importantly are your headphones. If you are using th-900 you are set with x5 I believe. HD800 or lcd-3 separate amp probably advised due to them being harder to drive. Maybe some more knowledgeable head fiers can suggest options.

I've highlighted this post for James, told him who JFK is, and I'm sure James will be deeply honored and humbled by your comparison at the same time smile.gif

Moving on, I'd just like to notify you guys about the firmware updates:
X5 shipped worldwide with FW1.20. Version 1.21 I have here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qoqyti6c01z7e9p/x5-fw1.21.zip

Alas, the new versions are coming by so fast that the engineers don't even have time to write changelogs tongue.gif But this new version is a highly recommended upgrade. Among other things (that I'll tell you about once I grab hold of an engineer to write a full changelog for me), 1.21 finally puts DSD decoding and high-fidelity 32-bit lossy (e.g. mp3) formats decoding into a stable firmware; RobC also noted that it solved an issue he had with connecting the X5 to the computer with every other version of firmware.

noted that the 1.21 is a beta version.

About the shipment, sorry I don't know the detail cause I am working at home . anyway, don't worry, we will keep manufacturing our X5 till the end of this month so we should have enough stocked for the market.

First impressions.... Wow, this thing is solid smily_headphones1.gif. Very nicely built with a decent heft to it. Not too heavy, but just...solid

I'm probably not all that qualified to comment on how it sounds (Golden ears I don't have!).... but to me, after 10 minutes..... sounds great. Everything is as it should be.

James

Will Fiio ship X5 as they become available or you have a defined date for the next shipment?

Thanks

AWESOME!!!! Can't wait to get the X5, I've been wanting this DAP for a long time now, sounds like it's going to be an excellent product too from all the early reviews.

Hi,

Can someone compare the AMP section of the X5 to the iBasso DX100?

Also, will the X5 alone be enough to drive Mad Dogs 3.2 and HD600? Is the iBasso a better match for such headphones?

Cheers!

The DX100 is more powerful, for sure.

X5 arrived this morning from EA Audio in UK. Charging that baby up right now.
