The Fiio X5 Thread - Page 361

Here's a new idea.  Tell everyone production date is 3 months farther out than you expect it to be.  Then, when you start distribution 2 months early, you're a hero!!  ;)

Wait, oh yeah, I just realized you then have just killed your cashflow.

Well since we have a few more weeks to wait, I guess I have more time to look around and throw more money at what will be my new setup. I know there is an intro thread to ask this kind of stuff, but since I'm asking specific to the X5, I'm hoping its ok to ask here :)

I am pretty new to the audiophile world the the x5 will be my first real DAP/DAC. Currently I just use an iPod nano with a basic E6 amp with either RE0s or M50s. I didn't plan on buying another amp to go with the X5 as I'm big on portability, but as a noob, will I be missing much if I don't get one, assuming I use the RE0s and the M50s? I listen to mainly rock, alt rock, pop rock, etc. All this talk of ohms, etc in previous posts is a bit over my head

Secondly, how do folks feel about the pairing of the bundled S1s from MP4Nation - think they'll be a decent second pair?  I really enjoy the M50s for most of my listening, but at work they start to squish my head after a while so I typically use the RE0s. They're OK, but I wouldn't mind a newer pair of IEMs to go with the setup. Just wondering if the S1s will fit the bill or if I should look elsewhere.

Thanks for having me around and thanks for the help so far. I've seen the internet a wee bit, and it's quite refreshing to show up new to a highly specialized forum and feel like I can actually ask a question and get help

As far as I know MP4Nation is based on HK, so if they are sending a batch to Asia, I would say the March 29th date is very likely!

If you start a few pages back in this thread and work towards the present, you'll find people asking the same question about amping. Given the X5's powerful specs and purported neutrality, there isn't a need to amp with your current 'phones unless you want to change the sonic signature. For instance, I bought the X3 and E11 DIY and have been enjoying that combination - not because the X3 needs amping but because I can play around with the sonic signature by swapping opamps. Make sense?

I pre-ordered the X5 + S1 from mp4nation. They'll be my first pair of Brainwavz, so I'm also curious to hear how people think that pairing will work out. Given that the X5 has a 10-band EQ, I imagine it'll be easy to tweak their sound to your liking.

my advice to everyone is wait until it is available locally,

that way you not only support your local retailer, but life will be much easier

if you have to return it.

am I correct James?

Thanks. I had read the posts previously; I guess I am uninformed enough to have been thinking the specific headphone choice had to do with whether or not you'd want to amp :-/ However, sounds like you've confirmed that I probably don't need one as I wouldn't know where to begin on changing the sonic signature. Still much to learn, I keep too many hobbies:redface:. Thanks again.

edit: Re: "As far as I know MP4Nation is based on HK, so if they are sending a batch to Asia, I would say the March 29th date is very likely!"

Now you've got my hopes all up again, heh

Not doing that, -probably- will allow me to save more than 100 EUR.

Well worth the risk in my case

I'm also curious about the X5/S1 pairing, I'm not familiar with Brainwavz but from the reviews I've read they seem to be comparable to IEM's up to $100. I was originally planning to just sell them brand new in box since I already own a pair of Shure SE846's and help drive down the price of the X5/E12 combo I ordered, but my curiousity will most likely get the best of me and I'm sure I will open the box up to test them out even though I don't need another pair :)

I noticed/didn't notice something in 1.17...

The annoying lockscreen warnings are gone!

How do you feel about X5 so far? Still a rising star in "audiophile" daps world?

A Toronto retailer insists he's getting it by the end of march... Fingers crossed.

New firmware? Does it have the album sorting under artist?

I have searched the thread, and i haven't really found anything concerning creating playlist. Anyone know how it is to create playlists on the DAP? Like on the go, and also playlists to store.

I do have a Cowon J3 that i have been very satisfied with, but as of now it is broken, so I am looking into the X5.

Yep! Look for the firmware in the second post of the x5 world tour thread.

It's a really solid DAP that keeps improving with each firmware release. I've been using it almost daily since I've had it here with me, and it's a fine companion. Plus all the extra features are a plus.

If you were asking about SQ, you already know how I feel about that.:D

You can't.
