Cheers

I loved both LCD-X and Spirit Classic with it. Being transparent and on the neutral side, it should pair nice with a lot of headphones out there.

...I saw one reviewer mention that the buttons can be easily pushed inside your pocket? Can anyone confirm this issue? It's not a deal breaker I would just like to know how easily this happens.

It has a protection activated that makes you push the power button first to activate the other buttons.

Dan, Great Review!!! The positive reviews of the X5 just seem to keep rolling in. I'm really glad to hear that this DAP excels at instrument seperation, details and soundstaging as I think these are a few of the areas where most DAP's really take a backseat to a full blown audio rig.

Also, "The x5 has a more spacious and holographic sound that my full blown size Burson Conductor." that is awesome to hear as I love the spaciousness of my Conductor (which your excellent review of that led me to purchase also!)

Dan, not sure if you own the FIIO E12 also, but any impressions of the X5 with it if you do, particularly how it affects the pairing with the LCD-X.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

Don't have the e12 right here.

I would add E12 only if I would need to use LCD-3 or HD800 (or any other power hungry headphone) with it, but with LCD-X, X5 pleases me on it's own.

Thanks, that's great to hear that it's enough on it's own for a top class headphone like the LCD-X

Anyone who has heard both care to comment on the X5 versus the HM-802? Some say the X5 performs well above its price, and others suggest it does not keep up with the higher priced gear like the HM-802. There might not be many people out there who have heard both given that the X5 is not even out yet, but if anyone does have a sense of how close the X5 comes to the sound of the 802, I would appreciate hearing your perspective.

will stacking x5 with e12 work well?

When the X3 was released it was pretty popular as sold out most places. B&H had it in stock at their store not too long after it was released so I'm hoping it is the same in this case. I pass by the area where B&H is so being able to pick it up would be preferable since I can get it the same day I buy instead of waiting.

I've also recently discovered that having a dac as well could be very useful as I find myself at a cafe or similar environment more often so being able to use music from my laptop with something other than the headphone jack would be nice. I can't wait to get these as I do enjoy the X3 when I do use it.

I had demoed both at length and won't say 802 is vastly better than X5 if you are not driving full-size cans. They have quite different tuning - X5 more neutral and focus on separation/clarity, 802 is warmer and focus on a lush vocal presentation. Which one sound "better" probably come down to preferences on sound, and with 802 having the edge on power while x5 the edge on built materials and UI...
