Hooray! Maybe I am in B and H's first batch since they took my preorder a few weeks back.

I am listening to X5 + LCD-X . It sounds amazing. Never expected this level of quality from X5. This may be the best product from fiio, ever!!

I was amazed at that pairing as well. Even better than with the Fostex TH900. The LCD-X is very easy to drive and scaled down well, but the sound quality and driving power of the X5 was very apparent.

I really is a good pair, meaning that the amplifier in x5 drives lcd-x quite well! Besides that, the dac inside it is very very very good!

Dan, good to hear, that is the exact pairing I plan to use, along with my Shure SE846's for on-the-go use.

I'm listening to the X5 and the E12 right now and this is a great paring as well.

What phones were you listening with?

Also, Dan, just curious do you think the X5 would need extra juice to power the LCD-X's better, I am also thinking of getting the E12 if it's necessary to drive the LCD-X properly.

Currently my beloved, Vsonic GR07be. Sounds great with Vmoda m100 and ATH-M50s as well.

The X5 just arrived. It's larger and heavier than I thought it'd be, but it's really sturdy feeling.

I'll post impressions tomorrow comparing it to the HM901, Studio V, ZX1, and iPC 6th gen

I, for one wouldn't buy E12 to use with X5 and LCD-X as I am satisfied with just the X5 and I am not willing to sacrifice the space and commodity for the extra power that E12 will bring, because I am not using LCD-X as much with portable devices.

Ok thanks, I like the form factor of the X5 by itself too, just wasn't sure it would have enough mojo for the LCD-X by itself. I mainly plan to use it with the SE846 which it should be enough for, but if I do decide to use the X with them I might pick up the E12 too for some more power, heck at $130 it's certainly cheap enough :)

I am not saying E12 is a bad amp, it is probably one of the best values in portable amp market but when you want to drive a reference level can, maybe you should go for TOTL amps, preferable desktop but if you really need portability, there are better options. Of course, all of them comes with the price but so LCD X does too.

Its not necessarily for the extra power but the X5/E12 together makes the X5 sound a lot better IMO. I think it tames how bright the X5 is.

Very curious about the 846 pairing. That's how I'd use the X5. The 846 is so sensitive and low impedance that I am getting some hiss even at low volumes from my iDSD. Hoping that I wouldn't have that issue with the X5.
