This might explain one of those shut downs anyway.

Sure. But I have auto shutoff set to 8 minutes and my 'relief' break (leaving my X5 unattended at a hotel lobby bar) was maybe 2 minutes. Something happened that was unusual that day.

Thanks.  Sounds like a glitch then.

You are very lucky the "something happened that was unusual" wasn't your X5 disappearing in somebody's pocket during your 'relief' break.

Personally, I can listen and do 'other things', but that's just me. :D

Does anyone know where I might pre-order an X5 for the American market?

Is Gapless playback ON? I have a Fiio X3, and I've had issues with the DAP shutting down spontaneously with Gapless ON. I don't have that problem when Gapless is set to OFF. I filed a bug for this for the X3. Not sure if anyone filed a similar bug for the X5. Just a thought...

Finally, someone else admits to having problems with gapless playback. I mentioned that earlier in this thread about my X3, but no one else seemed to have that problem.

I filled out a bug for random freezing on the Fiio bugzilla tracker. Someone else there suggested it could be from having Gapless on. Once I turned off Gapless, I haven't had the random freezing. Please go vote it up in the bugzilla!

Will do. Mine is also fine with gapless off.

Ummm....how can it be "fine" if it can't play Gapless tracks without it freezing?

OK...THX....continue

I tend to keep gapless off unless I'm listening to pieces that need it. I don't know why but I prefer the sound with it off in most cases. That goes for the AK and Fiio unit. Weird I know, but that's just what it is for me.

So it looks like in the Calyx M thread they are starting to beat down and pick out reviews lambasting the SQ of the x5.  Go figure it never ends.  Now to test it myself......
