You are correct. And I hope manufacturers get on board with SDXC micoSD was really a stopgap for cell phones.

The 256 is heavily priced but that will come down soon enough.

I support LarsHP's idea that if possible Fiio can consider to use SD instead of MicroSD.

The development in SD card is faster than microSD and the price will go down much faster too.

Up to date, the available  max capacity for SD card is 256G (Class 10) but for MicroSD is only 64G (class 10).

Imagine X5 has quad-slot that can take 4 pcs of 256GB SDXC card with total  capacity of 1 Tera.biggrin.gif

Space and size is already a huge issue on the X3 and probably X5. In fitting/cramming all the components in and allowing for a battery that can fuel the better DAC and amp whilst still providing X amount of hours.

This is extremely off-topic, but i don't see anything wrong with a reduction of humanity on this planet(not talking about genocide of any kind) as right now we're killing nature to create more space for ourselves.

Anyway back to the X5:

The thing is, higher demand, lower price, because more development. Micro SD is relatively new compared to SD card, but the size is a big plus for many small, crammed devices, including the X3 and X5. If they would put in SD instead of micro SD, this would leave less space for battery, or would make the device bigger.

64GB is about enough for me right now, and if it wasn't, i'd swap cards/data.

I see that most DAPs use microSD cards (if at all use any kind of SD card), but HiFiMan uses normal SD cards in all DAPs, including the soon to be released HM-901. This is of course a relatively big DAP, I should add (about the size of a DX100).

The planet is not as fragile as you're making it out to be.  Also, everything is in a constant state of flux; humanity isn't apart from nature, we're a part of it and top of the food chain.  If we choose to use resources to build X5s then that's all to the good.  Nothing was 'better' before humanity because there was no one alive to create that value judgement.

By using this site and thread you're embracing human progress through technology and art.  Yay humanity!  Yay X3s and X5s.  Everything has a cost and humanity itself is the highest good so it's well worth paying that price.

technology is a wonderful thing but can be dangerous thing at the same time... you only got to look around the world at people wanting more freedom, democracy & transparency... on the other side of the coin you have fundamentalist & dictatorial regimes who will do anything to defend their point of view... the world is over-populated, we are killing the very fabric of society so compromises must be made to ensure the survival of all species.

anyhow it's not for me to decide on the future of the planet, I'm way too far down the food-chain.... but I can be environmentally friendly & invest in the future of others creating jobs for their countrymen... put me down for a X5.

How did we go from a dap discussion to a philosophical discussion of human society impact on the planet? or politics or general conspiracy theory?

I felt obliged to try & be 'intellectually challenging', 'try' being the operative word so don't get excited... in truth all I wanted was to be put down on the list for a X5.

I bit the maggot & was reeled in.

it may be too early still to be put down on a pre order list of there even is one
