If I had the money available, and the DAP available, I'd buy it, and manage OK until extra languages are added.

If the X5 is as moddable as the X3, you could just add English support yourself :)

I have enough Chinese/HK friends where I can get them to tell me what is syaing what and then to just mod the files to add preliminary English support.

That is, if FiiO also releases a mod kit like they did with the X3

I have been very interested in this thread and the X5. Currently using my IEMs with a stack Cowon iAudio S9 + JDS Labs C421 (v1.01) OPA2227 and I am quite pleased with its sound. I am not a technical guy but what I make of it the X5 is a very nice all-in-one portable which would enable me to get rid of the stack. Would the X5 be really a big big step up in SQ? Thanks!

I do believe yes, X5 would be big step up.

You will get plenty of power with X5 and yet a neutral, transparent sound. So far we don't have much info but everything come to us is positive about them. Yet still FiiO tries to improve the ergonomics of the dap and make it even better an overall end product.

The fact that X3 has already plenty of power and X5 will have even more, most of us shouldn't even need an external amp.

I was comparing output power of X3 and R10, they are actually quite similar. Yes R10 pushes harder but maybe X5 with its improved amp section can reach it. We will see I guess, FiiO still hasn't revealed the specifications of X5.

Great, thanks for the clarification that is all I needed to hear.

Now I can't wait for April either, hope it will be in EU (online)stores sooner though :beerchug:

Same here, I will choose between this and R10 I guess but there is a big chance I might end up with X5.

What would be the dealbreaker (R10 vs X5) ?

I didn't get the question mate? You mean, what would be the deal breaker on X5 and force me to buy R10?

Yes exactly that is what I meant. I had some pretty good experience with FiiO over the last years. Never had an Ibasso so I am curious what would be the reason for you to not buy the final  Fiio X5 - or what would be the R10's unique selling point ?

R10 does many things superb but has several BIG cons, that's why I don't buy it now and wait X5's impressions. X5 on the other hand seems like a perfect overall package without a con and yet still does everything perfect to near perfect.

I would not buy X5 if it sounds not good, not comparable to TOTL high end daps but I seriously doubt that it will happen. I am sure it will be a reference class sounding device.

The only problem is, we don't have much impressions about them. In a few months, when more people have them, we will get a better idea about where does it stay in the high end league. So, like pretty much everybody in here, I am waiting to hear/read more about them.

One of the things in my mind is, my ciems (SE5way) are quite power hungry, so something with high output power would be handy. I am just waiting FiiO to release official specs of X5 so I can compare. However, still, they said it is higher than X3 and X3 has already a lot of power spend, so it should be more than okay.

We have a very nice overall package in here, the capacity, sound signature, amp section, GUI, physical buttons, USB OTG, many connectivity options, tank like build quality.. I really don't see something FiiO missed and it will be a deal breaker to people.

A little update on X5's output power:

290mw @32 ohm on high gain. A little higher than X3 apparently.

Thanks James for the information and again, I (We) wish you the best of health.

Thank you

2039CNY is a nice price. I'll pass on DX50/X3 and will pray for my mate to be successful :D

Any ideas on the audio quality of the X5 (and perhaps the X3) against the Astell & Kern AK120 and AK100s?

The prices of the AKs are astronomical compared to the Fiios, so anything close to the same would be amazing.

We won't know until that loaner tour that Fiio has if anyone has the AK100 or Ak120 to compare.
