LOL!

Errr... I very much doubt it.

Fiio need to make money selling new products, rather than reducing their profit margins by 'buying-back' used goods (which is essentially what a trade-in would be).

I personally feel that Fiio are one of the fairest manufacturers when it comes to pricing, so their profit margin is much smaller than, say, iRiver's Astell & Kern product line.

If you wish to upgrade to the X5, then I suggest you sell your X3 privately, on eBay or here on Head-fi's Classifieds section.

OTG refers to the device being able to negotiate to become either host or client. When it is a DAC it is still acting as a client so OTG implies some other functionality which requires it to be a host. The two most plausible functions are mounting external storage, or USB audio out. Unfortunately for AmberOzL (and any others wanting USB audio out), in the context of previous discussions of OTG, this is almost certainly talking about mounting external storage. But I could be wrong....

Let the hating begin...

See one example here that is well written:  http://xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html

I strongly disagree with access to 1st gen recordings. That said, there's much that can be more important and a few ducks to get in a row to appreciate it. To me, significant when so and not so much when not. Also why these comparisons can go wrong. I think 24/48 is a nice portable compromise if you want to save space.

^ Hey joe would it be possible for you to ask the Fiio team to do a render of these X5s in silver like the DIY version of the E12???

This silver color scheme might be a better match with that "X" button design cuz it makes it look more subtle, yet would make the black scroll wheel "pop" a lot more as well.

... just some food for thought, thanks!!! :)

^ Stop trollin' fool i was dead serious. It would look so BOSS in that silver color cuz that funky "X" button would look more muted/ recessed.

Looks quite nice in Silver, actually, but silver plastic (buttons etc.) never stays silver for long, so I'd rather buy the X5 entirely in black. The real choice of silver for the buttons isn't a dealbreaker for me, though, obviously.

It's usability and SQ that I care about, above all else.

I'm sure James has us all wondering what he and the team have managed to accomplish at this price point.

In order to be worth their time creating and marketing, it surely must sound better than the X3 and the DX50 (James isn't crazy to charge more for a product that doesn't sound any better), so the question is, with the law of diminishing returns always active. how close to DX100/HM901 SQ have they managed to achieve?

I'm not expecting miracles, but I'm optimistic that it will not roll-off the treble like some cheaper DAPs do, and should sound rather nice, overall.
