Thanks for answering.. This will be my first DAP that has line-out. smily_headphones1.gif

James please make X5 a very nice DAP to take on HM901 and AK 120.Don't worry about the cost people will pay for a neutral best sounding Dap.
Maybe you should give us,some suggestions about the final price and then you will have our vote.We want the best and Fiio can do it.

So many choices now:

Tera Player

AK120

HM901

DX50

If James will give us a A+ sounding DAP with the price of $500 usd this will sell like hot cakes.

Did you purposely sort those down from crazy and absolute ripoff to intriguing but modestly overpriced?

i will pay up to 1000 usd for.anything better then what market offers now.

Thank you! Catering to 24/192 is crazy enough for a DAP, no need to get into the quagmire of DSD implementation.

You might want to consider reallocating portions of your discretionary DAP budget to new headphones, new music, spending time out with friends and family, donating to disaster relief organizations, etc. Only one observer's opinion, no offense intended.

Fair enough, a donation to the Grameen Foundation has been made in your honour.

How is this kind of "life lesson" type of remark in anyway useful ? Tolerated ? Is it anyone's business how anyone spends their own money, let alone spend their time with family and friends ? Could we just talk about gear please ?

Have you tried these DAPs before insulting the people who make them / sell them / buy them ?

I think it is useful although I understand and respect your choice to be intolerant of it. It's none of my business what any head-fier chooses to spend their money on only so far as they don't make it a public question by asking for advice on what to spend their money on in a public thread. A question which is only tangentially related to the thread's topic, mind you.

I did not insult the people who make them, sell them or buy them. I insulted a small selection of consumer electronics, their respective designs and their pricing. This is my prerogative as a potential consumer and it is a shame that you took that particular comment as a slight against engineers, distributors and consumers. For the record I have tried the Tera, the AK100 (120's predecessor) and the HM901 in meet/convention scenarios.

The only reason I participate in this thread, as opposed to the multitude of threads out there on luxury DAPs, including the ones previously mentioned, is that I am interested in a sanely priced well-designed product which might make waves in the audiophile community. I see FiiO's contribution here as a positive influence.

As we've already gone off course in this discussion I will endeavor to limit my input from here on out to the X5.

Guys, please chill out and get back to the topic of Fiio X5. Let us not turn this thread into yet another subjectivist vs objectivist debate (go to Sound Science forum or PM if you want to continue).

Regarding Fiio X5, JamesFiio already said that it will not have DSD or ES9018, so there is no point of discussing those here.

I am quite sure that the Fiio X5, at a price around $400-500, will make both camps happy. Considering X5's projected price, it is not aimed to compete with Tera Player, AK120, HM901 or DX100. However I would not be surprised some people prefer X5 over some of those mentioned wink_face.gif

Good points in the most part. I do however actually want to know why they choose not to support DSD. That is more of an informational issue as to the format itself, rather than a wish or criticism of the X5. I question the future of DSD as it may just be another SACD.

If they really ever decide to compete with Tera or AK its really simple. Plate it gold put it in an "Italian" leather pouch and triple the price for the "limited edition"biggrin.gif

This made me laugh darn hard. I also think X5 can compete against TP, AK100/120, DX100, HM801/901. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't. FiiO already said it will be their reference level dap with the highest build quality and latest technology. DAC chip is very nice (I know it is also matter of implentation), physical buttons, dual microsd card slots, not the highest but still rather powerful amp section, high res playback in all formats, less than 1 OI.

Why not? Seriously. I think these guys will have a serious rival called X5, and with the price point, it can make everyone happy and sell like a cupcake. DX100 sounds awesome we both know it, but what about software and UI?

Currawong said something today in one of the other threads:

1. Great sound quality.

2. High-res playback.

Pick any two.

I do believe X5 will have all of those features not only 2 of them like DX100 or TP or AK series.
