The Fiio X5 Thread - Page 140

I'm not convinced of the wisdom of making the scroll wheel textured like that - sure, it makes it easy to 'grip', but if used frequently, the customer could end up with sore thumbs.

On the plus side (for some), I noticed this, although I don't know if that's native or a PCM implementation ('m guessing it's a PCM implementation):

So, it looks like James took it seriously after his tentative remarks at the end of October:

I'm really hoping this DAP will deliver in terms of performance, and if it does, I really hope it is a runaway success for James and the team.

They deserve success for:

1) Actually listening to what customers want

2) Trying to give it to customers at a very competitive price.

So, just to confirm. The X5 will do DSD, and OTG right out of the box? And, that is two micro SD slots I see, correct? My apologies if this has already been covered. I have been subscribed to and read this whole thread right from the beginning but i can't remember everything.

I concur March seems like an eternity away right now. Hey, my birthday is in March. Happy Birthday to me, happy Birthday to me..........

They can't just waltz their way past compliance. They need to meet standards to put the CE marking on the thing for sale into most of Europe and the same goes for the FCC mark.

There's also manufacturing capacity to take into account along with finalizing kitting for other countries.

OTG you mean USB OTG? I think it you can't add external hard drives, usb keys to the usb entrance of the dap, you won't gain extra storage. As for USB Audio output, I think this one is not gonna happen either. To be fair, I would love to get USB Audio Out from this device. Maybe James/Joe can force it later on with FW updates?

Edit: Wait, I think I am wrong, one of these USB OTG features (either audio out or storage option) should be valid cuz in FiiO's website (Chinese) I saw OTG icon. Maybe Joe can clear it for us.

Yes, OTG is supported very well.

But OTG what? I mean USB OTG Audio Output (means we can connect it to Centrance Hifi M8 for example) or USB OTG to connect to usb keys, external hard drives to increase the storage capacity?

I hear ya, AmberOzL; it's a very valid question.

The DAC chip supports DSD. It's unlikely that it's transcoded to PCM and much more likely that DSD is decoded natively by the hardware.

It should be an USB-OTG for Audio-Out not to act like a USB host to read external storages.......It already have 2 TF slots to support 64GB msd each summing up recommended capacity of 128GB, and if formatted with FAT32 it could be more.

We gotta find an answer mate, to me USB OTG Audio Output is a game changer feature, if it is there, I might not even look at ZX1 anymore cuz I know for outside day to day life X5 will be enough; for home and transportable life (for the days I am willing to carry a small-ish bag with me) X5+M8 will create the miracle.

I think the same way, agreed but I will still not believe it until Joe or James explain it.

Can the X5 be grabbed in Shanghai? I might get one just to try.

Ahh, great!

I'm no expert on the DSD capabilities of various DAC chips. The reason I was suspecting PCM is simply because of this previous exchange with James:

And I might be very curious to hear your impressions. When James recovers and returns back here, I believe we will have more answers to our questions and the thread will go faster.

Can't possibly buy a DX50 knowing that thing is coming down the pike...I can't wait to hear impressions of its sound/UI.
