I am pretty okay with the dx50. I wonder why people seems to bash it alot , i think its fine. I think its better than the fiio x3 in terms of operation, I haven't faced a single problem besides some of my song only playing halfway, even then its pretty much a minority

I've said the same thing about the DX100:   ...I suspect there may be more than one configuration of the DX50 hardware (i.e. subtle improvements as each batch is produced).

I'm not stating this to be a fact. I'm just saying I suspect it.

There were variations in the user experience of the DX100 (as just one (of many) examples; variations in effectiveness of the WiFi functionality) and there seem to be variations in the user experience of the DX50, and although firmware version differences would account for a certain proportion of the reported differences in user experience, I feel quite certain that there may be subtle hardware differences influencing the different user experiences to some degree.

Does that mean the latest badge i believe its the 12th iteration is okay or more than ok ? Since the dx50 is a little more than the x3 and apparently better maybe i should consider it as a cheaper alternative to say the more expensive (no doubt better) x5 ? I will wait a few months till the x5 is released before i make a decision. Meanwhile im with my rockbox clip+ or android and C5 combo...

On the other hand i just absolutely love the design of the x5... i do hope they provide a matching black silicone case and not like the x3 that comes with a translucent white case..

You can buy two other skin colors for the X3, although they are a tad pricey:

Please remember that my remarks about possible minor alterations in hardware are only conjecture on my part, not (yet) established fact.

I know , but it doesn't really hurt to check which batch got the errors, and which batch is actually safe no?

Fair enough; I was just being careful that I don't want anyone to run too far with what I said.

Also, I think this DX50 stuff should maybe now be taken over to the dedicated DX50 thread, so we don't take this X5 thread too far off-topic.

Really looking forward to seeing what the X5 brings to the table, and also very much wishing James a successful recovery from his recent health issues.

I'm rooting for you, James! (professionally and personally)

How you doing James? Is everything on track with X5? January is closing in. Are you going to send some to some headfiers for comparing and reviewing? Is so I would volunteer.

I've received a message from his colleague, which says that James has had a successful surgery.

Hope to see James coming back to Head-fi very soon.

It seems that everything is on track. X5 will be announced this weekend, and FiiO has just uploaded some photos about the X1 on Facebook.

Yes you don't have a problem but amount of people having problem, all those sending back units, receiving new ones etc. That's just no go for me mate. I want a clean, nice, problem-free experience. Even a Clip+ can do that, I think I am not asking much.

In the meantime, back to X5 and James. Any information about James's health situation? I am wishing the best of luck for him. Will absence of him effect the X5's planned schedule? Maybe Joe from FiiO with his majestic avatar can shed some light here.

LOL can't resist replying to this biggrin.gif

Yes James' surgery has been successful, and the incision has also been confirmed to be infection-free. Better yet, I just received word from James today that the tumor that was extracted wasn't really a tumor, but just something that could maybe possibly become a tumor in the future (I don't know what to make of the Chinese term he gave me, much less translate it to English) redface.gif It seems James was led to think it was cancer going into the operation. Were the doctors just not sure? Is this precursor thingy something you want to removeASAP or were we all had by the Chinese doctors? I dunno tongue.gif But the good news is since this was never cancer in the first place, there no chance for a relapse smily_headphones1.gif

They probably thought it was best to just remove either way and didn't do a pre surgery biopsy.  I'm sure James is relieved but drained. Here's to a quick return to feeling like his old self.:beerchug:

Fantastic news. I'm so pleased for James and his family.
