OMG! You're making me feel like banana... I can only read 3 out of 5 off those Chinese words D:

You remind me of this song as well:xD

Mim, are you really interested in this dap that much? I mean you already have HM901 w/ balanced card, TP and incoming ZX1, I wonder what makes you interested so much. Not that it bothers me, it is even a good point for me, having the same dap with you is always a pleasure and advantage since I trust your opinions and impressions plus we both have SE5way so I can count on your words when you express things.

I am as well. I really like the choices in terms of parts and design. Companies also tend to learn a lot on there 1st venture into a market. Using the same SOC and stepping the rest up should serve them well.

The Tera is excellent in SQ but has limitations. The 901 is my reference DAP, but the battery life with balanced card is ridiculous. I am still interested in finding a perfect DAP for me. I will try the X5 almost for sure as 400$ is not a big risk...I am also interested in the Calyx and next offer from AK but they are much more pricy. I think Fiio is being really smart on this, because it might hit the sweet spot with thr X5.

Well said then. Glad that we are on the same boat.

Yes.

If this DAP performs properly, without too many glitches, it could indeed be a fantastic success for Fiio.

Frankly, I'm amazed no other DAP maker has recognised the enormous opportunity to make a serious audiophile offering in the $400 - $500 price segment.

There are lots of iPod (and other) DAP owners who are curious about experiencing higher sound quality but are nowhere near geeky/serious enough about audio to consider spending as much as $700 - $1200, but would be willing to risk $400-ish.

I think Hifiman is aiming at the mid range with 802, but I am not sure about this product...as big as the 901 without the SQ...

The sound quality may be fabulous... we just have to wait and hear

True, I had forgotten about the 802, although I'm not optimistic about the UI / firmware it may have.

I agree with you about the size - I will not accept something as big as the 901 / DX100 unless it is justified by being very, very special indeed, on a technical level, resulting in high-end SQ.  Having owned the DX100, I don't really wish to own another DAP that is more than 70% as thick or 70% as heavy.

While we're on the topic of cheaper HiFiMan DAPs, I hadn't forgotten about the 602/601, but I feel they were/are too awkward to make it into the mainstream marketplace, especially now Fiio's X3 offers decent SQ at a very reasonable price. Who knows if iBasso will ever get the DX50 firmware to operate at a respectable level. I hope they do, because it may help them if they re-purpose the firmware for a more expensive DAP in the $500 arena, just as Fiio are doing for the X5, with what they've learned from the X3 firmware.

Dang, just double-checked the price for X5 and realised that it is way too high...

I have a chance to listen to it, and I think it can easily replace HM801. For those are prefer a slight warmness and more texture, I think HM802 might actually be a better choice over HM901.

It  runs on the same UI / firmware as HM901. Beside not being particularly fast, I have no problem with it. Of course, it doesn't quite have as many features as X3 / X5 in comparison. The new UI on X5 does look very advance.
