Plan B. I prefer it long and narrow rather than short and wide.

I am happy to be the first to say this: that's what she said.

Believe it or not, I was thinking of that as I wrote that post. Hence the deliberate phrasing lol.

This is a fascinating thread, i do have a problem i was going to wait for the x5 but now there is a x1 and x7 planned and i wondered whether the x3 might suit my needs

I do have 2 questions regarding the x3/x5 - will the x3 have a firmware update so the gui is similar to the x5 -also will the x5 sound better than the x3 with 16/44 lossless files of older 1930-60 recordings some of which are challenged regarding recording quality?

Plan b , I think this dap would be the next sansa clip alternative . seems to be a way better scalable alternative if priced competitively

Have you created an X1 thread yet? Or is that premature?

Aight... Should I go for the X3, or hold out just for the X5? As in, what improvements I can get from the X5?

James,

Will the X5 have the same issues in decoding MP3s as does the X3 (discussed in the main X3 thread)?
