The Fiio X5 Thread

I just bought a first gen last night and I really hope this is true.  I have the 2.5 fw installed but I don't think that was it.

I really don't see the battery life extending that much from a firmware upgrade. They advertise 10 hours and that's about what to expect. It is what it is.

I haven't read anything from Fiio about a firmware update that dramatically increases. Until I hear it from Fiio, I'm calling BS on that one.

Joe Bloggs???

Looooong time ago at the introduction of the X5 James mentioned it may be possible to squeeze a bit more out of the battery life, but realistically physics are physics and the battery life is around 10 hours. I don't remember seeing anything official about 15 hours.

Chuck a cheap amp at it like the E11K.  Should get battery extension up to 16-18 hours.

Quite funny, the discussion a couple of pages back re msd cards, I have 2x200gb cards, and I could have bought 4x128gb or 10x64gb cards for the same price, but convenience knows no price, don't want to be fiddling around on the street trying to work out which tiny card I want to swap into my player (with high probability of dropping one).

Each to their own :)

Here in UK, the 128 GB cards are still quite expensive unfortunately. 64 seems to be the sweet spot as far as price goes. I have to agree though, that two 128 GB in the x5 would be way more convenient than four 64's.

When the price here drops, I'll do the same and use the 64's for archiving. Gets them off the computer and stored away safely.

Another thing about storage, is that it's a pity that the X5 didn't include its own 8GB internal like the X3. I have so much music on cards that sometimes, I've shot out the door with no card in the player. With the X3, I have music on the internal memory, so it's not such an issue.

See, once you pass 60, you forget what you're doing!!!

(And the American sense of humour gets wasted on you too, it seems)

I'll be forking out when the price comes down though. It will eventually.

When I'm touring, I sometimes take one of those phone chargers and connect it to the x5 or 3, or 1 so it plays all day. Doubles the size of the X5 but in a bag, it's actually ok until I get back to the hotel.

It was included in the note to first media reviewers and tour previewers as one of the things we expected we could get out of firmware updates. I suspect that back then, the engineers thought that the feature set was pretty complete and that what remained was to optimize the code so it can run the existing features on less CPU time and hence battery. If that's what they thought, then boy were they wrong... With all the extra things that FW2.5 now does over FW1.0 I'm surprised the battery life hasn't taken a *hit* over the original firmware, never mind a battery extension...

I love my X5, but I won't be happy until there is a better way of browsing the library. Where is the jump by letter? Sorting options by date added, year, anything!

Semi-rant over

So, does this then indicate no further firmware updates for the X5 first gen?

It doesn't indicate anything in that respect either way. :deadhorse:

Please to save me time how does one go about getting a X5 and X1 fixed. Sorry I know this is the X5 thread. The scroll wheel is all but useless on the X5 and with a bit of fiddling the X1 gets me there.

Thanks in advance and again please don't get mad that I asked about something other than a X5.
