The Fiio X5 Thread

Huh! I've got DX90 and X5 and can tell differences in them (and do use X5 more often) but don't find DX90 to be lifeless. If anything, it's got more sparkle up top to my ears than X5.

Totally agree about DX90's battery life being sub-par, but at least you can swap out batteries of need be. Although personally, I prefer non-removable batteries with longer run time vs. replaceable batteries with shorter run time.

I do like the DX90's form factor, although iBasso made some strange design choices. Why the tiny album art???

My latest DAP purchase is a blast from my past - iRiver IHP-140. I used to have two Rockboxed IHP-120s back in the day - before I dropped both and killed their HDs :frowning2:

Hi Guys,

today i jumped on the X5 train and received my first Fiio unit.
I am looking forward to compare it to my AK100 and my DX90.
The first impression are really good. It came with Firmware 2.3.
I have updated the device to 2.4 and started with two prepared sd cards.
Scanning is much, much faster than with the DX90.
So far so good.
Sadly i have to wait to get my first sound impression, i have none of my cans with me in the office......

Maybe you can answer two initial question:
1. while charging the player will not power up (long press on power button). Is this correct?
2. when playing pressing the volume buttons longer will not change the volume constantly, but skip to the next or previous song.
I wonder if this is the intended behavior?!

thanks a lot

Hello Ulmisch,

1. You may try pressing the ok button instead (button in the middle of the scroll wheel)
2. Yes that's the intended behaviour, when the screen is locked out (as the player assumes that it will be in a pocket when playing with the screen locked out, so the additional options of skipping tracks is provided)

Hi. My problem only was increased sibilance on my new DT 990 on some songs playing form the Fiio. There wasnt any other distorstion. I did try your 'solution' , however, without any effect for the sibilance.
Thanks anyway

Hey guys, I tried both X5 and DX50 in a hi-fi store here in Prague yesterday (I wasn't all that interested in the latter but the shop assistant said I might want to give it a go so what the heck...) and I have to say the X5 had the better sound of these two. It seemed to have wider sound stage and somewhat crisper sound to my ears. All in all, I'm really considering getting the X5 (probably with the E12A) but one thing that happened to me there was that X5 didn't seem to like my SD card I have been happily using in my Android phone (and the DX50 had no problem with it either). It detected the card but said there was no data on it.

Have you guys ever experienced something like this with your X5?

If you don't update the library you can't see the songs in the categories (Album, Artist, Genre, All Songs) but you can if you browse by folder. Also, is the card formatted as FAT32?

Most of the 'can't read my data' issues are from these two things. If you do get an X5 it's highly suggested to format your card with the X5's format option. This will avoid potential problems with different formatting SW.

Well, I think the filesystem thing is probably the culprit. When I bought the card, I don't think I tried to format it since it worked out-of-the-box. And, as I said, both the DX50 and my Galaxy Note 3 have no problem accessing data on it. I guess I'll have to format it properly if I get the X5.

Oh, and just for the record, I did try to update the library. The X5 had the update functionality set to Auto so I reckon it would have scanned the card upon insertion, but I did try manual update several times.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your input. :)

It sure does!

I see, thanks for the confirmation. Don't want another player to die on me because of a dead battery~

Just updated to the latest firmware. It pretty much has everything I've asked for in the past... At one point or another. I love it

Hi X5 experts.

Quick question:

I have my X5 on "Shuffle All Songs" and that works, however i get the impression that the X5 sometimes plays the same song more than once in shuffle mode.

Is there a setting to only play every song once in shuffle all mode. Where Plays = 0?

What FW are you on? This was supposed to be addressed in FW2.4.
