The Fiio X5 Thread - Page 72

post #1066 of 19484

Say it isn't so James!! The X5 should be a one box solution meaning that it shouldn't need another amp for it to shine! Please make it more powerful than the X3 or atleast powerful enough where it does not need assistance from another amp..

yes, we almost finish the hardware design and waiting for the new UI . X5 will represent the best build/sound/UI/UE from FiiO. and for $400, I don't see there are any serious competitors.

it is one box solution, but the battery life and the heat will become a big problem if we make it more powerful than X3. also even the power is the same as X3 , it will big enough for any IEM and most OEM and some big headphones.

X3 = 109 x 55 x 16

X5 = (anticipated) 109 x 65.5 x 14.5

Hypothetically, X5 casework slightly enlarged, in order to contain larger battery + improved heat management = 1.5 x original

= 109 x 65.5 x 21

X5 + E12 = ( (anticipated) 109 x 65.5 x 14.5)  + (124 x 65.5 x 14.5)

= 124 x 65.5 x 29

And that's without considering the extra weight of 2 chassis rather than one.

I just think it's a cop-out, personally. Sorry, but I do.

It seems this is more about trying to compete with Apple, by making the X5 as 'slim&sexy' as possible, at the expense of actual performance-vs-battery life.

Well, slim&sexy does not make a flagship device.

Performance makes a flagship device, with all other factors being secondary to that. If I want to buy a device that needs a seperate amp to perform at flagship level, then I fail to see what the X5 brings to the table that isn't already available.

I'm a little bit sad about these news.

Fiio wants to sell an incomplete device that only if amplificated can reach hi-fi levels.

Is it worthwhile to spend 400 $ for it? Maybe it is better go for the X3 that costs half the price.

post #1074 of 19484

I think it will be still hi fi level as far as sound is concerned but if you wanna drive orthos or very hard to drive headphones, you will need additional power.

I can see that for portable life X5 can become a king.

Now what I need is a solution for pairing it with Centrance Hifi M8 frown.gif

Damn it. No toslink again.

Franky speaking I prefer to wait 3 months more and spend 500 $ to have a complete and satisfying device instead of spend 400 $ and become not convinced in what I have spent.

Thankfully, why would anyone want the fragile toslink cable for portable use is a mystery to me.

If it takes only 3 more months to release successor with USB Audio output feature, I would wait but I am not it is really 3 months.

Um, because there's certain DACs that accept TOSLINK only? Have you read the thread?

We know TOSLINK might not be perfect for portable use, but sometimes it's the only option you have.

Maybe FiiO the X5 will have USB-Audio. James even mentioned they could work OTG inside the X3.
