I am hoping that it can be docked with the E09K, rather like the E07K can.  This would be awesome on my desktop, with the X5 display easiily visible and the convenient volume knob on the amp.  I really wish my X3 could do this also.  I am really curious to see what the final spec will be.

I expect the DX50 and it's price point, may have changed some decisions about the X5... or maybe not if they still want to get it out in 2013.

  400 USD. X5 will be reference class dap from FiiO. I would expect something high end.

I thought the X3 is already quite neutral compared to other dap, which was what caught my interest. If the X5 is going to be 100% neutral, then I'm definitely waiting for it.

I doubt there's anything 100% neutral... I will probably expect it to be near 100% (if you prefer to calculate in percentage) xD

Neutral thing is depends on person. Someone's neutral may be other persons warmish sound. I just read quite a lot of comments about X3 having a warmish-neutral type signature. When James stated that they are making more neutral dap than X3, I thought this can be a sweet spot between the warm/cold line.

If the "lower end" X3 has DAC functionality, i would like to think the "high end" X5 would have it as well...

Yes, X5 will support USB DAC feature too.

just plug the phones into the headphone out and whatever the power X3 has, will be available to you...

thanks for the quick reply! now everything seems clear to me. It's also the first time learned that x3 has this function too today ( I never really browsed the details). Waiting for the x5 just got harder for me, now i might just grab the x3 and forget about the x5 for a while. Then I'll just grab the x7 when it comes out. i'm sorry for the silly questions since this will be my first time buying a player that's more audiophile-like than an ipod or smartphones.
