All other players I can think of does it this way. iTunes, iPod, Walkman, all the Android apps I use, like Poweramp, Neutron, etc... This is the way people navigate in every other programs.

I have a feeling that the guys at Fiio testing these units don't actually have hundreds of songs in the memory card, like us users do.

If you have more than a few hundred songs, it becomes really tedious to navigate with Fiio's primitive method. I mean, would anybody actually choose "Genre" and listen to all the songs in that genre from A-Z?

please understand that our customer is located in all over the world, usually Chinese user don't care about any genre playback function , in fact, they are unhappy about we change the artist playback mode to Artist--> Album.

and the fact is most Chinese people download the music from internet but not purchase from iTune or Amazon online music shop, so the sound tracks usually does not includes any Tags and they used to play the music through

folder playback.

So, the same question is : how many brands will like to make smartphone or DAP as what Chinese people need ?  and I don't think every mp3 is navigate like Genre---> Artist----> Album .

Finally some good comments about the scroll wheel! I hope it's just different opinion of users than inconsistencies of X5. Will report asap once I got mine!

Thanks!

so far we had sold out 5,000pcs X5 from Jan , and there are only one report about the wheel, and you must known the guy , lol, he is boewei006 in here. he lost the play bottom in his his review sample , so he know how we design the play bottom with

the wheel,

In fact, the play bottom is a screw , and we use it to fix the wheel in case the wheel will loose, and we also used some screw glue to fix the play bottom too.

Just wanted to post and say that I talked to B&H today and they are shipping my X5 tomorrow! I can't wait....I have purchased hundreds of songs from hdtracks and am listening to them on Shure se846 through a 10 year old laptop purchased on a Black Friday special. A garbage computer. I am expecting a giant step up when listening to these on the x5!

That's exactly how I would listen to music, unless there is robust support for playlists. What I do is listen to a certain type of music based on my mood on shuffle, and genre works most of the time for that.

Love this product (comong from iPhone Classic). Great sound with Westone IEM. Only problem I am encountering is when connecting via USB to Windows7 machine. It charges the X5 no problem, but is not detected as a new device (no beep, new device indication, as I get with all other USB devices I connect). I have set and re- set X5 to storage mode with no result. Having to remove 64GB cards and insert manually unto PC USB slots to manage the music library.

Would anyone have suggestions for remedy, or contact information for FiiO technical support?

Sounds like maybe FIiO USB driver required?

Thank you

Whoohoo! That means maybe mine is going out too! Just about to call them too then :D

*EDIT* Just got off the line and the X5 is definitely in stock at B&H, and mine is shipping in the morning. Even better, they bumped me up to UPS 3-Day Shipping :D...

Still waiting my X5, but in preparing cards, is a top level folder like FLACS, Hi-Res, DSD, MP3 ok with Artist/Album underneath?

Obviously ok for folder navigation, but does database find Artist/albums etc by meta data, and so any structure of folders is ok?

superbike999 - took a look at the link you had helpfully provided - I already have version 1.20 firmware installed from the factory and don't need stand alone DAC functionality.  Do you suppose if I re-load the 1.20 firmware it might fix the connectivity problem; or maybe the DAC driver also addresses the USB connectivity for the PC.  I will try the DAC driver first - see what happens.

Tried the X5 DAC driver installation - get error message

Setup requires that the device is plugged in. Please connect the device you want to install and make sure it is turned on. If your device is currently connected, please unplug and replug it.

X5 is showing that it is charging from the USB connection to the PC.

Tried another mini USB cable with same result: charging, but no Upnp USB connectivity - no 'hello, I see you have a new device connected' dialog that I get from all other USB connections (WD drives, iPod, iPhone, DVD recorders, keyboard, mouse, headset etc.)

Guess I will try re-installing the version 1.20 firmware unless there are other suggestions.

Anyone know if Fiio provides technical support?

Thank you.

Is this actually sold anywhere in Europe? I only found one store so far (from ebay) and they don't ship in Italy.

I haven't received my X5 yet, so I'm only going on what I have read in the user guide.  You may have to alter a menu setting, to switch it to a particular mode to be able to load the DAC driver.  I would suggest having a look in the guide re the installation of the driver.  Good luck

I just checked my B&H account and I have a tracking number, created at 12:50 PM today.  One day late as I am leaving for a week tomorrow at 9 AM. At least I'll have something waiting for me when I return.  (Along with my FiiO G01 Portable Guitar Headphone Amplifier that I ordered last week from Amazon)

Thank you superbike999. Not looking for DAC driver. Just want to connect to PC to manage music files.

edit: searching this thread seems like there's no such support. James from FiiO mentioned in October that they might be able to add ReplaGain feature in the future, but since there hasn't been a mention since, I assume this has not been and will not be included in the foreseeable future. This is pretty much a dealbreaker, as my listening is 99% on shuffle, and I'm too lazy to reach to my pocket to change the volume every track :frown:

I just joined this forum to add my voice to the support for this feature. I've got an X5 scheduled to arrive on Thursday. My music collection runs a fairly broad spectrum of time periods, from the 1940s to the 2010s. I have music from before and during the loudness wars, and I've used ReplayGain to add volume adjusting tags to all my files. If the X5 ends up not supporting a feature like this, it'll be a blow to my enjoyment of the unit. Please add this feature (or mp3gain, or both) in a future firmware update!
