Fiio X5 Thread - info updated on Jan 17th 2014 - Page 406

Hi all:)

Does anyone  have any some experience in sacd ripping to flac with foobar. is this lossy ?

?I was going to convert all my sacd iso files to flac 176khz, converting allows me to select individual tracks and put them on my x5 instead of full iso and will remove unwanted  5.1 and mono tracks embedded in some iso files which I,m sure the x5 wont accept .

is there any advantage in sound quality  to leaving the iso untouched and letting foobar or the x5 to decode to pcm?

Doing this also has the advantage of freeing up a lot of space on my pc .I  also have a backup of all my music  on a 2TB external drive ,but I just want some advice before I start  ripping to flac  and deleting my iso files off my pc.

Also will my dvd audio ripped to  stereo wav files play on x5?

I ripped all of my DVD-Audio discs to 24/192 WAV, using DVD-Audio Extractor, and transferred them to memory cards, and they play perfectly on my X3, so I don't see any issue with them playing on the X5 as well.

Thats good too know goodsound, waiting on my x5  so am trying organise my  2tb of tunes in the mean time

DVD-Audio Extractor is what used for my dvd audio also so I,m sure the,ll be fine then.

I,m converting all my sacd iso files to flac 176khz using foobar at the moment . Don't know if this is this best way to do this and most probably not entirely lossless but the result is a very nice pcm flac  files

You might try reducing 176kHz to 96kHz. See if you can hear the difference...most people can't. If you too cannot hear the diff  then it will save alot of memory card space....and conversion time...;)

After one day with X5. I must said it's the best detail DAP ever, I dun have chance to try HM-901 but i think X5's detail even better than AK120. I can understand why some ppl put X5 over AK120. Fiio did a fantastic job. Now I'm so confused, i can't imagine what X7 can bring us. It seem X5 will be strongest rival for X7 .:L3000::L3000::L3000:

I feel like X5 will end up being the best bang for the buck, depending on what they decide to price the X7 at. It seems like a $1000 DAP for $350, I think the law of diminishing returns sets in harder after the X5, but will have to wait and see.

Ya when i read all the review in here i cant believe it. How can 350$ DAP be better than 1000$ DAP. But after i hear it i know it can .....

Yeah, I was skeptical too, thinking it was just new toy syndrome, but this thing really sounds like a high end DAP, but is priced like an iPod, incredible job I would say.

Yup tried that

I read somewhere to use either 176khz or 88khz Because the frequency at which dsd is sampled will divide exactly with 88.2 or 176.4

original sacd iso=3.2gig         converted to  flac  176khz=1.47 gig 88khz=998mb  . they sound the same to me burtomr almost 500mb smaller too. will do a few A/B tests but 88khz is fine for me if it saves 1/3 less space   cheers  burtomr:)

Thanks a lot, u guys. Coz of your comments, now I'm not just waiting for my X5 to arrive, but also itching to upgrade my UE900. My wallet hates you tongue_smile.gif but my ears will love every note ksc75smile.gif

So now, what to do? Cable upgrade? IEM upgrade? Decisions, decisions.

What are your IEM's/Cables now? I'm using an SE846 w/ Effect Audio cable with the X5 and LCD-2 w/ Q Audio cable with the X5/E12 combo and both sound incredible.

Anyone here familiar with the HPL cables? Am considering their. Nobium Silver cables. Hopefully someone here can give me some feedback on the following issues:

1. Any audible difference between 4-braid vs. 6-braid?
2. Would sheathing improve resistance to tangle?

Would HPL cables be best bang for my $$? confused_face_2.gif I've only used stock cables thus far, so I can be considered a novice when it comes to the subject of custom cables.

Hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

iPod 5G + FIIO E11 stack --> UE900 with the blue stock cables (didn't like the sound signature of the stock black cables).

I also use my trusty old Shure E2G when in the gym. Bought these Shures a long long time ago (15+ years?) and they're still going strong. No cable damage or anything. Cables are thick, hence they're used for gym and exercise.
