It's all about the music. Put what you enjoy on it and don't sweat it.

Thank you.

Don't upconvert! Just because you change the file extension and make it larger via an encoding tool, doesn't mean you're getting back what was lost during compression - it will be the same file, just with a new extension and whole lotta new bits. Unless you've got it all on CD to re-rip to FLAC, it's MP3 foreva.

Hi James, any news for the shipment to Italy? Already 5th day of shipping and nothing on the list. I pre-ordered nearly 1 month ago :( Thanks!

Update on cheap 128 Gb microSD cards:

Earlier in the thread, I had mentioned that I might try an eBay seller who has 128 Gb micro SD cards for $59.95.  I figured I had little to lose as eBay guarantees the purchase.  Well, I ordered two and they arrived today as promised.  They come formatted as FAT32.  I currently copying over 120 gigs or so of ALAC-encoded music, a little over 300 albums.  So far, so good -- the card was recognized by my Win 7 computer, and copying is going well.  I have the card in a USB 3.0 reader, and Windows is reporting that it will take a little over 4 hours to copy over everything.

I don't have my X5 yet, so I can't report how this card performs in it -- I hope to have it in a few days.  I'll report back once I get it.

In the interim, if anyone is interested, this is eBay seller from whom I bought the cards:

My X5 arrives in a few days. This is my first time leaving the iTunes ecosystem.

If I just drag and drop my library from iTunes into the X5 microSD cards will the tagging work ? Has anyone tried this ? I know I will lose album artwork. Any feedback would be appreciated so I can prepare for the switch from iPhone to X5.

My X5 has no problems with music I've bought from iTunes. Album art shows up properly and tagging works. I haven't tried ALAC though.

I wonder if there is a remote chance of a X5/E12 DIY bundle.

Thanks, that makes sence for individual downloads. I am wondering about CD's copied into iTunes which is the majority of my collection.

To me, X5/E12 combo has not much effect.

FiiO X5 is too neutral sounding for me, but its details and separation is fantastic.

What is that white USB thumb drive I see in some pictures?

I'm really scared to buy from miccastore. I bought a Fiio E7 at a time when the newer version were coming out (in a white cardboard box - apple like packaging). They send me an old unit (in a tin box) with a run time of already 1 hour on it. This was long ago maybe 2011. But I'm not sure if the units are checked in the first hour for flaws before final packaging.

I've highlighted this post for James, told him who JFK is, and I'm sure James will be deeply honored and humbled by your comparison at the same time smile.gif

Moving on, I'd just like to notify you guys about the firmware updates:
X5 shipped worldwide with FW1.20. Version 1.21 I have here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qoqyti6c01z7e9p/x5-fw1.21.zip

Alas, the new versions are coming by so fast that the engineers don't even have time to write changelogs tongue.gif But this new version is a highly recommended upgrade. Among other things (that I'll tell you about once I grab hold of an engineer to write a full changelog for me), 1.21 finally puts DSD decoding and high-fidelity 32-bit lossy (e.g. mp3) formats decoding into a stable firmware; RobC also noted that it solved an issue he had with connecting the X5 to the computer with every other version of firmware.

Joe,

I just installed 1.21 and noticed a problem where it plays FLACs at a significantly lower volume in comparison to MP3s.  No issue with 1.20 (or 1.10).  Can you guys please check into that?

Btw, sorry if I missed it, is there a link to FiiO forum to report bugs and post suggestion?  For example, I would love to see battery % in the status bar at the top next to the battery icon (instead of guessing number of bars ;)).

I don't think you'll run into any problems. If I were you, I'd just rip with EAC or XLD to FLAC to make sure I had highest quality CD rips and encode into MP3 or AAC as needed.

Hi twister6,

Yes, we know about that issue now, will need to add this as a "known issue" in the changelog redface.gif

Yes there is smily_headphones1.gif We have a bug tracking and voting platform hosted by Bugzilla
https://app.devzing.com/FiiO/bugzilla/

To use it first register an account there ("open new account" button on the right) and then log in with your new account. Then you can look at all the bugs and suggestions people have submitted by clicking "X5 bugs only" at the lower left corner of the page. Or you can go "file a bug" right away and it'd search for duplicate bugs automatically for you while you're entering the title for your bug.

If you click into the details of a particular bug you will have the option to vote for it to make it known that you also see this bug happening or would also like this suggestion implemented. Bugs with more votes are more likely to grab our attention for fixing in the next firmware update smily_headphones1.gif But not all suggestions are possible to implement redface.gif
