Nowadays, Asia is the biggest market for head-fi especially mainland China & HK.

But as along as it available online, it does not matter where you live. biggrin.gif

Try shopping online from the Philippines. We've had Customs people in the Post Office charging minimum tarriff fees on items that are worth a fraction of the fees, such as when someone imported parts like capacitors and when I bought replacement op amps, when normally 1) fees are a fraction of the item's price, and 2) they have the option to waive it if it's non-commercial quantity; or worse, charging customs for replacement* or repaired units. They tried to charge me for an obviously used school jacket that had to get sent back because I left it in California, and it seemed like a waste (at the time) if they purposely filled a huge box with a flat customs rate just to get me my jacket back - and on top of the used look of it with some of the scratches, the jacket the university was for was right freakin' HERE, not freakin' Cambridge or Georgetown, so it was obvious it was just going back.

FedEx aren't any better. They have a dedicated Customs official there doing the same thing as the ones in the post office, and my family keeps asking me if I wanted one of the phones they'll get from their family plan upgrades, and I either decline or say they should just wait for someone to bring them in their luggage. My Mom ends up thinking I'm an ingrate lying about FedEx (some Mother - gives you a free phone upgrade, but believes a FedEx employee in California over her own Son's word relayed from acquaintances and friends when it comes to customs fees, despite what happened to his University jacket).

*they'll even question why it has a different serial number than the one that was logged going out a couple of weeks earlier

Canada here. Brought in two identical air pistols 3 weeks apart and got tariffed differently on each one.confused_face_2.gif

FedEx "When you absolutely, positively have to extract every last cent out of the customer"

FedEx "When you absolutely, positively have to extract every last cent out of the customer"

Actually, in our case the problem isn't FedEx itself, but whatever screwed up arrangement they had with our government. They could have a similar arrangement with your government. Other couriers already charge based on the receipt, or PayPal transaction,* then they pass that on to the government; or with large boxes, they charge a flat rate tarriff along with shipping.** With FedEx, you pay that, then you get a notice that you have to pay this amount to the government through the FedEx office when you pick up, otherwise they'll dispose of the package. AS IF they dispose of them to make the government money, ie, opening packages, logging truthfully, then auctioning them off. No, the Customs officials pocket the gadgets the same way some Customs bureaucrat earning $400 a month after taxes (well, OK, that's a shameful figure) was caught driving around in a Porsche 911 with questionable papers, after he figured in a fender bender and bullied the college kid driving the other car. He didn't think far enough ahead about the consequences of figuratively slapping with his badge a kid educated enough to think, "where do you work again?!"

When my Meier Cantate.2 blew its power supply I waited a month to get the parts so my Uncle can put them in his luggage when he flew home after a funeral, just to avoid Customs people basically exercising their prerogative to call "bull$h1t!" on the receipt from DigiKey and they take a stab at guessing that an encapsulated power transformer is worth more than the $26 on the receipt. Heck, when I bought that amp from this forum, I had it sent to my brother in California (from Australia) and he didn't have to pay anything. I then got my hands on it when I arrived a week later, after my Dad spent a few hours admiring the casework.

For the same reasons, as well as easier warranty claims, I'm waiting for our local distro to get the X3 and X5 before I throw my money at either one. Online shopping isn't as easy when the government can't do anything drastic like fire everyone in the Customs Department.

*In some cases, some buy them used off a forum then whoever receives it in N.America brings it to a Phl courier, and they use the insurance declaration on the original shipping

**The downside to this? The ATF got wind of people disassembling handguns and rifles, so the Philippines has a bunch of loose guns - and not necessarily AK-47s of Communist rebels or the Steyr Augs of private armies fending off Muslim rebels or terrorizing their own constituents (in many cases, both).

you might think that in this day and age shipping would be a lot easier.

We have a post office here which is as bad as any other, BUT if a package comes in via post there is a flat rate 5 buck inspection fee and in most cases it just gets a pass through. On rare occasions they will hit you with taxes and tariffs but by and large the post office is the way to go. It's why I ask folks to ship USPS economy from the States, much to their bewilderment.

Fedex and UPS here have looked at the customs brokerage as a found money venue and their fees can easily exceed the value of a small shipment. You pay this to them whether or not customs actually looks at the package or not. I bought a used Item valued at 30 bucks years ago and Fedex tried to get 75 out of me for doing nothing, the package was not even inspected. On top of that they claimed their driver could not find the street I am on so I had to go to them to pick it up. (I live on one of the 2 main east west streets in this town). When the clerk asked how I was going to pay for the charges I just looked at him, took the package and told them to take me to court. I never heard back from them.

Somehow this thread is changed to "shipping and customs" thread instead of Fiio X5 discussion thread bigsmile_face.gif

Alright. Lets get back on topic. Is the X5 supposed to sound flat or colored?

I do hope they will have a flat sound signature. The ones who want to color can use their amps and headphones tongue.gif Anyway, last word belongs to James.

Personally I sincerely hope the Fiio X5 is on par in term of sound quality like in iBasso DX100 (HDP-R10) or Hifiman HM-901 because they are truly "Hi-Fi" grade DAPs.biggrin.gif

James as you can see the community wants uncolored dap which functions perfectly and user friendly. I hope you are reading rolleyes.gif Just kidding, we all know you are a great guy and always consider customers ideas and suggestions.

...aaaaaand the game breaker is coming, high end sound quality and 24/192 playback, incredibly user friendly and functioning properly. Also won't burn your wallets down either biggrin.gif X3 price x 2 is more than okay for me honestly.
