Well tags aren't just the good old ID3 (v1) with character limitations.

There's ID3 v2, also Riff SIF (common in Japan for WAV).

Flac tags (also known as Vorbis comments) are also unique.

There may be more types that I'm not aware of.

All my music files are in FLAC, so reading the FLAC tags correctly - including album art - is important to me.

Same here - considering that the X5 is pitched as a serious high-fidelity DAP, it definitely needs to be able to read FLAC tags correctly, since this is the kind of source material many (most?) people will be feeding it.

I'm not saying it'd be an absolute dealbreaker but it sure would be annoying if it failed to read FLAC tags properly, although I acknowledge that the DX100 is pretty poor, overall, for proper file organisation etc., and it still holds it's own, overall, as a high-end DAP.

Now that I've seen the X3 specs, here is my wish list for additional specs on the X5:

- Optical S/PDIF output in addition to coax, perhaps as a mini-Toslink combination with the 3.5 mm line-out TRS jack.

- 75Ω micro-BNC connector for coax S/PDIF output instead of the 3.5 mm TRS jack, which is unsuitable for matching cable impedance.

Yes FLAC tags should probably have priority, since FLAC seems to be the most widely used. And then maybe apple tags, which would cover AAC & more importantly (for me) ALAC.

Actually keeping it simple and functioning perfectly is something waaaay much more important. That's fine by me. Are you still promised for end of this year release otherwise naked run? Yes I am so getting one as soon as you release it in Eu officially.
