Current availability date is April first (please don't let that turn out to be a joke in poor taste smily_headphones1.gif).

So tempting but I prevent myself using this chance

...*sigh* now it's a waiting game. I have watched thread for months now, seen it go from initial impressions euphoria, through the post-honeymoon blues and then stabilize to vaguely reasonable discussions and observations.

I have made sure I didn't crack and spend the cash on anything else...now it's just another month (fingers crossed). I just hope someone else doesn't come all with a better deal (bundled micro SD card, headphones, free puppy, etc, etc...)

LMAO...I thought about it, but the DX50's firmware was such a fiasco, I figured the DX90 would be something to try maybe later, if the X5 got boring...

calyx m :)

because of James replying to my inquiries I am way more excited about the x5 and he gets my money first. Plus it can connect to a Hugo which I cannot afford right now but will later.

While I don’t own the LCD-X myself, I happen to have the tour unit to test with the X5. Compared to my LCD2, the LCD-X feels shifted up in the frequency range and a little faster providing even greater clarity than my LCD2.2/Mjolnir pairing which is saying a lot. It’s not that the LCD-X is lacking in the bass department, but the bass seems to be turned down a notch keeping it from getting in the way of the rest of the frequency range. The result is a very realistic sounding sound stage that is even wider and closer to being there than the LCD2.2.

Now, paired with the X5, I was surprised by how good the LCD-X sounded directly from the X5 headphone out. The X5 coupled with the O2 amp (borrowed from miceblue) is even better giving the LCD-X enormous sound on the go. What is really noticeable is the clarity and wide sound stage of the LCD-X scaled down to the level of a DAP where the LCD2 is more euphoric, warm, and congested. Both are enjoyable, but the LCD-X obviously scales down better than the LCD2.2.

The Word from iBasso is March...no pre-orders which is typical iBasso.

Exactly my thoughts, I went through the DX50 release, it was frustrating, tedious and buggy as hell. At least my experience was, for that reason (plus not being overly fond of the sound) I'm skipping DX90. The X5 I have with me hasn't missed a beat yet and offered a much better user experience in the first 3 days compared to DX50 in the same time frame.

You guys are going like the sound of this unit, at $350 USD you'll be cheering, even at $400 odd AUD I'm not blinking an eye.

Man...reading the DX50 thread was scary...but I kept seeing them all over the place on the forums and was confused...we're people just dealing with the issues, were the ones with issues a minority? Eventually I gave up and just waited on the X5.

To be fair from sources I trust most of the main issues have been sorted in further firmwares with DX50 and the player is now virtually stable. It was more the problem iBasso released it to early and made the first end users a bunch of guinea pigs, I mean it was pretty bad,  freezing, volume shooting up to max at random, huge tag problems, random shut downs. firmware updates crashing. It was pretty yukky and being the consumer who paid good money you really didn't feel at the time you got what you paid for.

I'm not really against iBasso here, but my first experience with them has turned me away from wanting to give them money again.

Based on X5 specs and early comments I decided to sell my JDS Labs C421 for funding. However recent postings state that SQ significantly improves when an amp is added (stacking again!?!)Should I have kept the C421?

For ER4S I find adding C421 (more different) over a straight out improvement though I don't prefer it connected full time. There's just a few tracks I like listening to with C421 / ER4S. I find the amp section of X5 rather capable on its own.

As my listening sessions continue further with X5 my liking to the unit only grows stronger, I see its positive sides more each hour, and it's showing me my Studio V 3RD ANV weaknesses. Luckily they both carry a unquie enough sound which should compliment each other.
