Fiio X5 Thread - info updated on Jan 17th 2014 - Page 293

One thing I agree with Mike@Headfonia is the choice of brushed metal for the back plate. It feels a bit cheap to me. I hope the X7 will use something more classy :p

He hates the AK100, then sells the AK100, now he loves the AK100. Make that of what you will.
Sound being a subjective issue, I won't comment on that but the UI was only confusing for the first 15 minutes and within a single day I have managed to use it in my car without even looking at it.

If you can make heads or tails of one of his review's your a better human than I. I get absolutely lost in the use of every adjective and superlative, which to me renders the review of no use at all.

It's dark, warm, bright, etc etc:rolleyes:

More and more I think DAP's are a listen to it yourself piece of hardware. That is until some clever Joe comes up with the idea of recording the output and comparing it to the original wav file played:D

when did brushed metal begin to be considered cheap?  I know a lot of S3, S4 and a lot of other phone owners that would love a brushed aluminum back.

I regularly read mikes review and i can actually made sense of them , i dont see whats actually wrong with it , i can clearly see that while mike likes the sound of the fiio x5 , he hate pretty much anything  else about it , would have to say thats a fair judgement

Even though it's clear he spent very little time with it and possibly didn't bother reading the manual? Okay, sure....in that context, he makes perfect sense.

I remember finding Headfonia, and seeing that its reviews were full of contradictions, wild claims, and poor reasoning.  I was under the impression that it was sort of known that the writers there are clowns.

I think that pekingduck was treating us to some sarcasm.  :-)

The metal comments has me speechless cause down the line they'll complain that the plastic feels too plasticy and cheap.

What Mike meant was that the front was the smooth type while the back Iis brushed. Hence the weird pairing of both different style is off putting to him.
I think he'd prefer I'd they stayed with either full smooth or full brush instead of half half

I totally agree...I think the quality of the review is totally unrelated to the quality of the website. It seems as if he just posted his first draft without proof reading.

Thank you for the scale.  I appreciate your posting this.  I think I can live with the size if the SQ is where it needs to be.  I'm really looking for a review of the vaporware DX90.  If DX90 does not release soon I don't think I have a choice :)  X5 it will be.  Thanks again.

Ok so if the UI is ok but not "great".  How would you compare it to an iBasso UI or the AK UI?  I wish I had access to these to try them out.  Ugh.  Thanks in advance.

I still don't buy it. I heard more micro-detailing in the X5 than even the RWA AK100. The X5 also has a blacker background to my ears. Micro detailing just stands out so easily on the X5 it is effortless. While the RWA unit did still very much have a black background, it's dynamic range was quite poor with the presentation being congested and running together. Bass was bloated and an obvious peak in the upper mids and lower treble to my ears.
