Lol, I was just messing with your username there a bit, no hidden meaning intended.

The possibility of a future PEQ implementation is what we are really talking about here!! :beerchug:

Hi Joe. I did a bit of a search, but didn't find the answer. Do you know if any future firmware updates will support more than one custom EQ setting? I am considering playing around with EQ'ing, but it would probably only be worth trying if I could set up different EQ's for my different gear. No big deal to me if it won't be available, but I thought I would ask. Thanks.

The ipod look continues, with the wheel redesigned to exercise your fingers and the four buttons moved to hi-fi positions. LOL.

Hopefully my 256GB CF Rockboxed with a clean analog line out does not fall into that category. :)

I agree, from past experience, that we indeed have similar tastes, so your positive impressions of the X5 have influenced me greatly.  :D

Have you happened to test the X5's coaxial output?

Believe it or not, for quite some time now, I've been looking for a DAP that's worthy of doing double-duty as a desktop source - so that I can also listen to my music with the DACs and amps of my choice (for near-field monitors and power-hungry headphones) without the distraction of a laptop as my source.

Thanks!

Mike

Mike, short answer: no. The only coaxial-in device that I have is the original Headroom Micro DAC and that is in deep dusty storage.

I have used the X5 as a USB DAC and this is very nice indeed. However it doesn't address your 'ditch the computer' goal. :-)

I completely agree.

Even though people are forever assuring me that power output does not need to be substantial for sensitive CIEM usage, I still feel that extra power reserves DO make a difference to the authority of CIEM SQ. Seemingly, even tiny sensitive BAs respond well to hefty power reserves, for accurate dynamic excursions (you know what I mean ). I've given up caring about the geeky technicalities behind it, and just appreciate the synergy a relatively powerful amp stage can offer, even with relatively easy to drive loads. :beerchug:

I can't argue with you or my ears. It does!

This and the HE-400i is what I'm very excited about. They pretty much have the same target release date (March/April). I believe the power of the X5 will make that HE-400i sound authoritative enough given that it is a very efficient planar HP. :) I'm definitely improving my patience skills for waiting for these two since I can't do anything to have them unless they are officially released.

I tried 3 times (I work long hours usually...) and it never reached 11 hours (for me...)

So I'm on my 3rd battery draining run. The first was shy of 15 hrs. The 2nd died sometime between 10-14 hrs (I was sleeping - no not for that whole time :P). The 3rd was between 14.5 hrs -> 16.5 hrs. Yes, all 3 are continuous unattended play. All 3 cases was mostly 16/44.1 but case 2 may have had some moments of 24/192 when I was doing some listening. During the continuous I probably spent less than 30 mins on the GUI.

Edit: 3rd run was exclusively on the MH335DW, low gain and a volume around 80.

More Edit: Run 1 and Run 3, I had left it charging for 9 hrs or more before disconnecting (and starting the timing at the point of disconnection). Run 2 OTOH had a 5 hr full charge (i.e. the minute it turned green, I disconnected and started timing from then).

Very interesting! I think I am getting about 11 hours - maybe more - but I am constant song browser.
