Curious about that myself. The 2.5 is mechanically less robust than the 3.5 so I'd like to hear the reasoning there. Perhaps the Tachakoma knows something we don't.

To avoid accidentally plugging your headphones into the LO, I guess?

*insert joke about plugging in the wrong hole when they are located close together*

:D
 Mimouille  !

I did not think to raise such a debate, but to my mind it's not discriminant to place the HO on top, it's just disappointing. When I take my DAP out of my pocket I need to have the screen and the control in the right order for my eyes, not for the others. It's just an ergonomic logic.

And I prefer that the LO is on top for two reasons :

- when my DAP is connected to an amp, on a table for example, it's far more practical to have the LO on top.

- when my DAP is connected to my portable amp, the Pico Slim, I want to keep the HO of the amp at the bottom.

It's not because all firms do idiot things that they're on the right way

^This!

LO on top. HP at the bottom. HP on top for mainstream android phones.

Joker's very brief impressions from CES        http://theheadphonelist.com/ces-2014-headphone-coverage-part-2-audio-technica-stax-beyerdynamic-and-more/   Just below his Beyerdynamic impressions.

" from a quick audition with my Unique Melody Miracle it seemed to be a competitor for the HM-901."

Holy cow... We might be facing an audiophile bargain of the century. All those features, specs for this price.

Well, when it is Joker or Average Joe, I don't accept their words as hype :happy_face1:

I do not live in China but would like to know if there is any way I could get a Chinese version of the X5.

Thank you.

HUH ???   The guy has a thread covering more than 300 IEMs and is probably the most respected member of the community...  It was just a very early impression with not a bit of exhageration or hype... Read his comments ...

Anyway... i think i will wait now since i was pretty set on a Sony ZX1... There is always something to keep you guessing...

Because in a hurry you might plug your headphone into the line-out, and you will feel the pain when you have a very sensitive IEM plugged into your ears at the same time, not to mention the possiblity of damaging the IEM and even worst, your hearing.

The choice to go 2.5mm is because (1) 3.5mm plug won't fit in, so no accidental plugged in, and (2) it is a well establish standard so DIY part is easy to find, and manufacturer can made good quality 2.5mm-to-3.5mm LOD with ease. In fact, readily made adapter and cable can be found on the web easily. The alternative will be 6.4mm that is way too big or some odd standard that is either hard-to-find or let some DIYer charge you for a high price to made. (3) While 2.5mm isn't as robust as 3.5mm, for an LOD purpose it will more than enough, since you won't put a lot of stress on the jack as you would like a headphone, given its short distance and all. 2.5mm just seem like the most logical option to me.

Hi ClieOS, do you have any recommendation for quality L-shaped TRRS connector?

Don't think I have seen an L-angled TRRS myself. Do have a few DIY straight TRRS plug myself but I don't like to use them as they are usually big and not easy to solder.

"Is it in yet?"

I'm not going to jump too quickly to believing that the X5 can match the HM-901, but, on the other hand, I have been saying for quite some time that I suspect that the potential SQ of the X5 is being seriously underestimated by many people, added to which, I do respect Joker's impressions (it was his review which led me to buying UM's Miracle, which I did end up hearing quite similarly to him).
