I would think that as well. It just seems almost logical that the headphone jack should be on the bottom right?

I thought the same until I thought about other companies and in daily usage. In terms of daily usage, I actually have no problems with the jack on the top. I don't know why, most of the theoretical situations of it sucking never really happened.

Plus, Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft, Motorolla(Google) all seem to like headphone jacks up top and sell hundreds of millions of devices a year in that fashion with millions in usability testing spent.

No, it is a good idea to have it exactly where it is, on the top.

This DAP is intended to be used IN A PERSON'S POCKET.

DAPs that have headphone output on the bottom (e.g. Cowon J3, Sony NW-ZX1, etc.) force users to have the DAP upside-down in their pocket, which is really stupid (although both these DAPs have much better harware control buttons than many competitors' DAPs).

A DAP spends far more time in a person's pocket than it does in their hand.

I would argue that upside down in the pocket is exactly the way that you want it. Better access to the controls plus a nice one hand motion to pull it out and view it right side up.

And bottom is vastly superior for table top listening.

This is hardly a fatal flaw and I agree that the general market is familiar and happy with top exit.

+1! You have the correct words. I don't think it's stupid to put the player upside-down in your pocket. I actually have no idea why the HP jack should be on top. Unless you have a transparent pocket and let everyone (mostly kids since they have to be small to access a man's pocket) access it freely. O.o

It's definitely not a deal-breaker though if the SQ is worth it.

Well, on that, we can agree, at least.

(incidentally, I am a fan of the J3, in spite of the placement of the headphone jack).

I will almost definitely be buying an X5 when it is released.

See? You just don't realize it but your inner self also likes the HP jack at the bottom.. JK mate! :D

I, too, will almost definitely be buying an X5 when it is released! :beerchug:

while  i would prefer a top based headphone jack, i am okay with bottom based one like the dx50, i hope however if its on the bottom that the data cable is placed somewhere else

Top or bottom placement is fine for me, less so if on the side. But I do think having the line-out and headphone-out on the same side is a terrible idea. If they have to be on the same side, I'll prefer the line-out to be 2.5mm instead of 3.5mm TRS.

thats a pretty odd sized choice , isnt 2.5mm the old nokia/phones headphone jack, i want to say that the lineout have to be on the bottom, then i remember there is a lot of amps with the in jack on the top

I agree that LO and PO should not be on the same side.

Hi ClieOS, do you have any recommendation for quality L-shaped TRRS connector?

Apple's iPhone jack is at the bottom now. My iNano 3 headphone is on the bottom as well xD

Top or bottom, anything is fine as long as it fits my pocket.............

@clieos> why 2.5mm? To be unique/propreitory sort of interface? As i dont see any technical advantage over 3.5mm........
