James, we all hope you are well and returning to good health. Take your time with introducing new products (we can wait) and take care of yourself first.

It just ended the game more than likely.  Let's hope not but I see a lot of people jumping ship.

I am buying both so I dont know how one ended the other. X5 supports two sd cards and sells at 350usd. DX90 is at around 500usd

It is good to see choices are available or else we will be paying a large portion for brand name and marketing.

350$ is a really attractive price,i am definitely going for it,,,i will take a bank loan for it if need arises:veryevil:

Fiio X5

1. TI PCM1792

2. Dual microSD slots (up to 128GB)

iBasso DX90

1. ESS Sabre 9018mk2 (x 2)

2. 8GB (internal) + single microSD slot (up to 64GB) + OTG (xxxGB)

These are pretty much the focus points many would be comparing.

Wouldn't get too excited over the dual sabre dac in DX90 considering the insights (quoted below).

The big advantage of the K2M is to save power and make it more portable friendly by reducing the number of DAC core inside (8 -> 2),  taking a hit on performance but extending the battery life. According to ESS, K2M is rated at <40mW while ES9018 is rated at <100mW. Since using two K2M probably not going to save much battery life than a normal ES9018 (*given you'll also have to double some of the circuit around K2M), the advantage of going to the K2M in the first place is no more, but you are still stuck with half as much DAC cores and potentially not as good a performance. I have recalled from an old discussion with a manufacturer that the bulk price of ES9018 isn't really that high (*in fact it is quite cheap), so cost is certainly not an issue. I would have been more impressed if iBasso put an ES9018 inside the DX90 instead of two K2M. Now that would have been something.

I'm pretty sure that the X5 will get OTG too in a firmware upgrade at some point. I think Joe mentioned it earlier in this thread.

but DX90 does USB audio out as well according to source, that feature isnt on Fiio's to-do list... USB OTG storage is not that useful for me because I like to limit my choices when on the go, otherwise I would be forever staring at the screen to choose which album to listen to instead of listening... thats just my opinion....

Can the DX90 double as a USB DAC? Another big plus for the X5 if the IBasso can't

Usb dac was always in the work even for dx50 due to popular demand and after fiio introduced it on x3. I have only used the feature two times....
The beautiful thing about these two companies is that they are actually listening to customers

Caught myself out! I was one of the people arguing that OTG didn't just mean external storage, but OTOH I was replying to the post referring to the focus points and quoting that OTG meant xxGB more. (I know, poor excuse).
