Aux input is always analog. Only coaxial, optical, digital XLR and USB are digital.

sorry again... this is good information for when i am going to buy a car player... until now, i barley can drive, so no music until i can drive without problems... i just got driving license for 8 months...

X5 is a great player all in all...

I am a little curious, you said that eq is applied to coax out, this is a thing i really was not aware of, i could fiind some good uses for it..

SIDE NOTE::

How much i really appreciate x5: I am a great fan of anime and Anime Music Videos, which are basically cutting and pasting together short clips fron anime over some music...

I own a smartphone with IPS which makes the colors and everything look dazzling, and amazing overall, but i end up watching AMVs on my LCD laptop most of times, because x5 gets the audio quality much better than my smartphone, even though i loose some quality on video, i like the audio quality of video...

BTW does x5 work with any usb out of any android smartphone, or with linux distros?..

I used and tested it many times, works like a charm.

Don't know about the smartphone but I personally don't see the reason/benefit either. Not sure about Linux but if you want to find out do a search as it was discussed way back in this thread.

I was positively surprised about this. A very useful feature.

Unfortunately you're right – just tested it –, which in turn is quite a disappointment. I was about to explore HiRes recordings. But from my corresponding resent listening tests an even frequency response is (even) more important to me than the higher resolution. Even the HD 800 and the SE846 benefit from some subtle equalization, which the X5 enables thanks to its 0.2 dB steps.

Question to the experts: Is it impossible to enable equalization at higher sampling rates than 48 kHz? Also, am I right with my guess that at 48 kHz the frequency bands are slightly shifted to higher frequencies than the ones indicated?

A lot of car stereos expect weaker LO from iPhones or iPods, so there have been reports of distortion when connecting mid to upper tier DAPs to car stereos because they have powerful LO. If this happens, connecting to HO will correct the issue even if it is technically incorrect to do so.

The EQ was disabled for rates higher than 48kHz because of the processing load it creates, and the negative side-effects that go along with it.

We asked for an option to manually re-enable it ourselves a long time ago, but it has never been included.

Sorry to hear that. It leaves just one loophole to me: pre-equalizing HiRes tracks in double implementation: one for the HD 800, one for the SE846. Just another complication... errmm... challenge, since I crossfeed my whole music collection anyway...

I find with my K10's that I don't need to EQ anything as the signature is perfect for my tastes. Maybe changing the filters with the 846's will do the same for you?

However, with the differences in the music and personal sound preferences, it's definitely hard to speculate.

Ugh, I have one of those stereos in my car. Supposed to be a 'premium' Bose (Buy Other Stereo Equipment) stereo. I hate Bose nowadays but it came with the 370 so I figured I'd update the head unit later. Using line out from the X5 the stereo clips and distorts madly. Headphone out from the X5 is fine.

In my Nissan Xterra with the factory available upgraded Rockford Fosgate system the X5 sounds awesome from LO.

Hopefully more systems fit that profile as opposed to the Bose.

I've decided for the white filters already, and there's no going back.

Here's my settings:

SE846:      –0.8     –0.6     –0.4     –0.2      ––       ––        ––       ––       +0.4      +1

HD 800:     +0.2      ––        ––       ––        ––      –0.2     –0.4     –0.6     +0.2     +1.8     [via Bel Canto DAC2 and Corda Symphony]

IE 800:       –6       –4.8      –1        ––        ––      +0.8     +2      +4.2      ––       +5.6     [provisional]

Oh, I wrote the stereo off when I bought the Z. A new one is imminent, but it's been 4 years so far......... blink.gif
