How many of you that say you don't need DSD support, have heard Native DSD with at least a decent system behind it? Just wondering...

As an honest person, I didn't hear it. They are hard to find and even if you find, it is not the thing you want exactly (album or artist etc). It is not something common. I find investment on it and unnecessary price increase on dap because of it is not worthy. Really not many people heard it/need it. Probably it gives one step above than our usual 24/96 or 24/192 files but..... We understood each other I guess.

I like DSD for my home system but for portable use I'm happy enough with hi-res FLAC. DSD file size takes up too much space, drains the battery too quickly for my portable uses.

I can agree with most of these points. Personally I don't like to use my DSD files because they hinder battery life, but the heat issue is a non-factor for me. Although the feature of DSD playback is unimportant to some, I don't see why having the option is a bad thing. If you don't have DSD files or choose not to use them that is your own right as a paying customer, but I always like to have options available. I find both of my IEMs to be revealing enough to enjoy the likes of DSD mastering. If the X5 had the capability, that would make some of us happy.

Also, you folks need to remember... some people are going to be using this device both on-the-go and in a stationary space whether it be at home or in a hotel (traveling).

I'd like the option, but if the X5 didn't have it, that wouldn't stop me from buying it. YMMV

I believe that an X5 is probably under production and the choice of dAC, amp were already chosen.

For the sake of discussion and for making X5 more competitive, dSD decoding is a very nice thing to have.

I also wish X5 will have a better infterface than X3 and please use a larger LCD display with better quality. My ancient H340 has a better display than X3 and it is hard to swallow this fact

The X5 will have a better display, that's a given. Read the specs in the first post before swallowing anything ;)

Personally, I don't really mind whether or not DAPs play DSD (though I would certainly be happy to see such support).

Either way, with regard to DSD availability (aside from SACD rips), here's a relevant post about DSD downloads:

Color me skeptical. I count less than 200 selections available, and these are predominantly obscure artists.

The content holders are afraid of anything that is high resolution and is not protected in some fashion. This seems to be a case of Sony electronics division writing checks that Sony Records won't cash.

I would love to be proven wrong...

I would love to purchase studio master for all of my music.  Until they become much more readily available, native DSD support, as nice as it is, would only be a nice-to-have.

I wonder is there any news about this upcoming monster? Expecting it around February-March at Europe is a dream or acceptable wish?

James any updates on the x5? When is Fiio going to reveal the final product? And when can we expect it to hit consumer markets?

That UI photos can give us a hint about the construction I guess. Will there be a wheel like system like in HM901 or maybe touch wheel like iPod Classic?
