Ultrasone Edition 12 announced in Japan - Page 5

The Edition 12 is now shown on the front page on their site. http://www.edition-12.com/lang/en

Interesting. Four paragraphs, with only the short first one giving any hint of the sound of the headphone (it really doesn't even do this to a level where anyone could grasp any practical information from). It reads similarly to the plethora of voodoo nonsense encountered in cable ads.

Welcome to what many people call a teaser...

I wonder if it is going to be just as outrageously priced as the Ed.10

For me it sounds promising. They listened to their fans (us) to provide a perfect open headphone. The same promise is fulfilled already by the Signatures for closed cans. I am sure the likes of AnakChan will have a review out soon.

That's relatively reasonable. I might have to check this out if some initial positive impressions start flowing in.

It's a shame they didn't listen to their critics.

I'm patiently awaiting an invite from Timelord (distributor) to their showroom to demo the Ed12. I requested 3 weeks ago but they only have 1 pair which has one on tour to headphone magazines, e-earphone event in Osaka this past weekend, etc.

When it gets back to Tokyo & back in the showroom, I should be able to pop by for a listen.

More than one year ago i spent more than an hour to listen to the ed10, really wanted to give that headphone a chance,

i left the hifi shop with a hd 800, i would not have paid even 100 whatever currency for the ed10.

Last year i spent half an our at the high end munich to listen to ed8, sig pro an ed10. While ed8 and sig pro sounded ok but no wow effect the ed10 for me was as bad sounding as before.

I left the high end with a new t5p.

This year i listened to the ed12 at the high end munich and was even more dissapointed. Stopped listening after some minutes.

I went home with my new final audio piano forte viii.

May be next year i will listen to the new ed14 and go home with an agk k6006.

Usually when you listen to a new headphone, you get an initial impression about the sound, also with the ed8 or sig pro that was possible to get an impression of the general tonality, soundstage, bass .. but with the ed10 and now the ed12 the only impression for me was and is that this sound has nothing to do with sound and how the f*** ( sorry for that word not written completely) can any manufacturer release such a product.

What i don't like is that ultrasone difference between theory and reality, sound description vs listening experience, unproven theories vs sonic result, and the neverending ultrasone headphones argument that the headphone is excellent but my unability to get used to their whatever logic plus prevents me from accepting that they sound excellent.

By the way, i love headphones and listening to music with hedphones starting nearly 30 years ago with stax sr lambda, srm-1 and nakamichi dragon with dual highcom ii, but have never heard something like the ed10 and ed12 in a bad way.

I really want want want an ultrasone ed whatever with the build of the ed10, the quality, the look, the materials, comfortable, light, ... but

If you call ultrasone for information, contact them via email etc, they are fast responding, friendly, helpfull, really nice guys.

But for me it is impossible to understand or hear why the ed10 or ed12 ever were released as a product .

Oh ohhhh...no!!!

I fail to understand how ultrasone can run as a business. Their products are very nice, but definitely not competitive. I guess the designs and materials really work well for them.

Having owned some headphones with a high reputation, Sennheiser HD650, Beyerdynamic DT-1350/ T70p, Sony MDR-1 and still owning the AKG K702, I can only say that both Signature phones are well designed fantastic sounding headphones. No overemphasized treble, no uncontrolled bass, no recessed mids. These are on par with a lot of the other well recognized high end cans, for me even better in some ways. So to quote Ultrasone is not competitive is not totally true, I guess. But as I had some of the other Ultrasones, I know where the critics come from, aka they have some weak points that could trouble some, but also seem to fascinate others.

I hope that the ED 12 is better in some ways as the ED 10 was and still is. But I can also live with being happy with the Signatures for some time to come.
