Oh I see.... Well I think I might've been a bit harsh before and sounded more negative than I really feel. First of all, I only had a brief listen. Furthermore, whilst the amp/DAC was good, I don't think the SS amp did the Ed 12 any favours. Shall have to try a nice Cavalli or something next time.

Having said that, the detail retrieval was quite nice and I felt the soundstage was quite ethereal. Not HD 800 wide but weirdly airy and unlike any other headphone I've heard (maybe this is the S-Logic at play?). Being cheaper than the 10s, it wasn't exactly a bad offering. It's just that the sibilance really stood out for me. I was comparing directly with an HD 800 and not only would the sibilance be more pronounced in the 12s, even many smooth sounding and otherwise normal sounding passages on the HD 800s became harsh and almost distorted when listened to with the 12s. I am curious to see if others have a similar impression or if maybe I just had a dodgy pair/really bad synergy with the amp/DAC.

You see there is this thing called house sound signature.

Sennheiser's are usually warm or bright sounding at times

Audeze' are usual intimate, laid back and dark sounding

Ultrasone on the hand is the bit in bold and it's thanks to it's fail S-Logic design.

I'll take my HD 800 any day.

Wow, really? When I listened to both side-by-side the 10 much more than the 12.

One may argue that the ED 9 was a worthy flagship and even later offerings such as the ED 8, Sig Pro and DJ may meet that criteria.beerchug.gif

Whoops, I should clarify, I found the 12 in general to be a "huge improvement" over the 10 so sibilance was less; but, it was still extremely obvious none the less.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to hear the ED 9, but the Ed 8, Sig Pro/DJ are all good sounding headphones. All are way over priced IMO, but still decent for the street price you can obtain one.  The problem is they still don't match the sound quality of the TOTL headphones, IMO. Mainly due to the fact that they all were designed for portable use (i.e Closed). I'd like to see Ultrasone scrap this horrible idea of S-Logic and just make a headphone that has simple design, excellent sound quality, and open.

I'd hope so, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

I don't think PJ sells any Ultrasone products. I would say eBay, but the Ed 12 are still to new to buy them various places.
